Outdoor Magazine Radio Rundown

We wrap up the month of June with a little slower paced show this week.

First, I talk about my time fishing walleye on Saginaw Bay. The fishing was pretty good, but the company was outstanding.

Then, a conversation with the new Michigan DNR Director Keith Creagh. I asked him about his background in the outdoors and what the priorities of the department will be under his watch.

The hour wraps up with Kim Harvey of Wolverine Bank. Kim says interest rates are the lowest ever and this is a great time to buy that vacation home or recreation property.

Hour number two features Tony Smith of the Southern Lower Peninsula Deer Management Iniative. Tony’s group is pushing for the DNR to make some changes in the way the Michigan deer herd is managed.

One of my favorite guests joins me in the third hour. Outdoor writer and expert hunter Richard P. Smith talks about bear hunting in Michigan and what hunters can expect this season.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar and a great blugill recipe.

A little slower paced show this week, but still packed with great information. I hope you like it.

In the second hour I talk with Captain Scott DeVuyst of Open Air Mavericks Charters. Scott has some great advice on fishing for Saginaw Bay Walleye.

The fishing theme continues in our final hour as outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose joins me. Dave talks about the famous “hex hatch” and big brown trout.

We wrap it up, as always, with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time Dave has another tasty bear recipe.

A slower paced show this week filled with lots of great outdoor news and information. I hope you like it.

Rundown for Father’s Day Weekend

First, the story of my Quebec bear hunting adventure at Northern Outfitters. It was a great trip and all the hunters in our group were successful, including Ted Harpham of Darton Archery.

Then Dave Thomas of Bowhunter Planet joins me to talk about the longest shot ever documented with a crossbow. Here’s that video.

Next, I draw the winner of this month’s Ameristep Carnivore ground blind giveaway. Congrats to Jean Spieles of Berkeley Springs, WV. You can enter next months drawing here.

The hour wraps up with Nels Larsen of the Walleye for Warrior event this weekend on Saginaw Bay.

Bowfishing guide Scott Hodges kicks off the second hour. Scott is the owner of Bullseye Bowfishing and has some great advice on bowfishing West Michigan lakes after dark.

Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs brings the hour to a close. Tony has the latest outdoor news and information out of Lansing and the DNR.

Airguns are the topic of our final hour as Joe Syring of Crosman joins me. Joe says this new generation of guns offer much better performance than the old spring loaded BB guns. He also has some advice on what caliber gun is best for most shooters.

We wrap it all up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time Dave has a tasty bear chili in honor of my successful Quebec bear hunt.

Another busy and informative show. I hope you like it.

Rundown for the Weekend of June 9th

This week I take a look back at some of the more interesting conversations from the Outdoor Magazine show over the past couple of years.

First I talk with Michigan farmer and avid hunter Nick Ostrowski. Nick has killed more wild boar in this state than anybody I know of and he has some great advice on where to find the invasive animals.

Then rocker and outdoorsman Ted Nugent joins me to sound off about all things outdoors. Ted always has strong thoughts and opinions on outdoor issues.

The final hour features bowfishing guide Chris Brackett. Chris guides on the Illinois River for Asian Carp. He has intimate knowledge of those fish and talks about their possible impact on the Great Lakes.

An interesting look back at some important topics and colorful guests this week on the show. I hope you can join me.
