Rundown for December 1st

We kick off a new month this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio with some great guests and lots of outdoor information.

First, Gus Congemi of Live the Wildlife TV joins me to talk about a world record grizzly he shot with his Darton bow. I also give Gus some grief about appearing on the cover of the new Darton 2013 catalog.

Next, Tim Hart of Q1 Buckpole joins me with a look at some recent entries in that contest.

The second hour features outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose of Wildfishing. Dave has great insight into late fall angling action and the transition into the ice fishing season.

The hour wraps up with some Christmas gift suggestions for the hunter and angler on your list….and they’re all from Michigan companies.

Radio Rundown for 11/24

A broad based list of topics this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First retired Coast Guardsman Joe Marion has some great advice on cold water safety. Joe spent many years training fellow Coasties on ice rescue techniques, and as an avid angler, he has a valuable perspective on the topic.

Next, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews tell how his deer season is going, and has a preview of the December edition of their magazine.

The second hour features an old friend of mine, Tom Lounsbury. Tom is an outdoor writer, radio host and expert hunter. He has some tips for hunting the late whitetail and pheasant seasons in Michigan.

Erin McDonough of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs wraps up the hour. Erin talks about the history of that organization and the projects they’re involved in today.

Coyote hunting is the topic of hour number three as I talk with Blaine Bailer of Jay’s Sporting Goods. Blaine has great advice for the hunter who wants to get started in that rapidly growing sport.

We wrap it up, as always, with Wild Game Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week Dave has another tasty venison recipe.

This Week’s Radio Show (11/17)

This week on Michigan’s #1 outdoor radio show, Ted Harpham of Darton Archery joins me to talk about the new 2013 Darton bows and crossbows. I can’t wait to get my hands on that new Viper crossbow.

Then, Tim Hart of Q1 Buckpole talks about his Michigan based contest and how hunters can enter.

Hour number two features Lance Valentine of Walleye 101. Lance talks about walleye fishing in the fall and why this is a great time of year to catch a trophy fish. We also look ahead to the ice fishing season.

John Caretti kicks off the final hour of this week’s show. John is president of the Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Association. John talks about the sport of trapping today and some insight about why it’s enjoying a resurgence.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week we talk about Dave’s wild game cookbook and where to get it.

Radio Rundown for 11/10

This week we get ready for the firearm deer season on Outdoor Magazine.

First, retired Michigan Conservation officer John Borkovich tells about a proposed new law that would add trophy fees to poached whitetail bucks. This law is patterned after a a similar one in Ohio that’s gained lots of attention.

Then, I draw the winner of this month’s Ameristep Carnivore ground blind. Congrats to Wesley Garner of Goldsboro NC.

The hour wraps up with Tim Hart of the Q1 Buckpole. Tim has an update on how that contest is going and where to enter.

Hour number two kicks off with Michigan’s “Mr. Walleye”, Mark Martin. Mark talks about why fall is a great time to catch trophy fish and he has great info on hunting for whitetails in the sand dunes.

Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs is up next with the latest outdoor news and information out of Lansing.

Brent Rudolph of the Michigan DNR kicks off the final hour of this week’s show. Brent has an update on the EHD situation in Michigan and a preview of what hunters can expect this season.

Next, master taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio inside Jay’s Sporting Goods has advice on choosing the right mount.

Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up with a hearty venison recipe.

In the final hour of this week’s show, Michigan Conservation Officer Tony Soave checks in to answer some common questions and provide advice on staying legal in the field.
