Radio Rundown For First Show in June

We kick off the month of June with another good show.

First, Don Miller of Millers Sportfishing talks about musky fishing on Lake St. Clair.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews tells us what’s featured in the June edition of that magazine.

Hour two features Doug Reeves of the Michigan dnr.  Doug and I discuss the fawning period in the whitetail world.  Doug also stresses the importance of leaving baby fawns alone.  They might look cute and cuddly, but people should not pick them up.

The hour wraps up with MUCC‘s Amy Trotter.  Amy has an update on plans to increase license fees by the Michigan DNR.

Old friend Tom Lounsbury  joins me for the third hour of this week’s show.  Tom talks about his recent trip to Ontario and has some harsh words for the mandatory antler point restriction proponents.

We wrap it all up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week the chef has another great recipe.

Radio Rundown for Memorial Weekend

We kick off this week’s show talking with Ron St. Louis of Northern Wilderness Bear Hunts in White River Ontario. Ron has taken over Superior Bear Outfitters and many Michigan hunters will be hunting with Ron this season.

Then Katie Keen of the Michigan DNR talks about the Pure Michigan Hunt.

The hour wraps up with Matt Smith of Smitty’s Iron Works gym. Smitty has some great advice for hunters and anglers who want to get back in shape.

Ted Harpham of Darton Archery kicks off the second hour. Ted talks about the history of Darton and the new bows they’re making today.

MUCC’s Tony Hansen is up next with a look back at the wolf issue and a look ahead at what’s next.

The third hour kicks off with Dave James of the Fishhunter Charter Service in Frankfort. Dave says the action has been slow at that northern Michigan port, but is expected to pick up soon.

Then, Doug Deming of the Fish Point Lodge on Saginaw Bay has a report from that side of the state. Doug says the action for walleye has been pretty good in shallow water.

As always, we wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar who has another great wild game recipe.

Show Rundown for May 18/19

Another fast paced show coming up this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, I talk with Sgt. Tom Wanless of the Michigan DNR about his Michigan Outdoor Recreational Safety Weekend. That program is designed so kids can get their hunter safety certificate, boating safety, ORV safety and snowmobile safety certificates in one fell swoop.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me to tell the story of his successful Michigan turkey season.

Hour two features Adam Bump of the Michigan DNR with details on the Michigan wolf season scheduled for November of this year. He also talks about the Michigan bear population.

MUCC’s Executive Director Erin McDonough wraps up the hour with some insight into what to expect next from the anti hunting group, Humane Society of the United States.

Boating safety is the topic during hour number three as I talk with retired coastguardsman Joe Marion. Joe has great, common sense advice on how to stay safe on the water.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar. Once again, Dave treats us to a very nice wild game recipe.

Show Rundown for Mothers Day Weekend

We kick off this Mother’s Day weekend talking with Eileen Duffin of Tight Lines for Troops coming up next week in Manistee.

Then Glenn Duncan of Duncan’s Outdoor Shop in Bay City a recent problem he had with a lending institution regarding his firearm business. We also talk about the continuing ammo shortage.

The hour wraps up with Randy Jorgenson of Woods-n-Waternews. Randy talks about his turkey hunting season and the latest edition of the magazine.

Michigan’s sturgeon spawning run is the first topic of the second hour as I talk with Brenda Archambo of the Black Lake Chapter of Sturgeon for Tomorrow.

Then charter captain Hunter Engel joins me to talk about Great Lakes salmon fishing. Hunter is the son of well known charter captain Dave Engel of the Best Chance Too charter.

The hour wraps up with Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Tony discusses the recent victory of sportsmen over the anti hunting Humane Society of the United States.

Outdoor Magazine contributor Richard P. Smith kicks off our final hour. Richard and I discuss bear hunting in Michigan and he has advice on how to apply for a Michigan bear hunting tag.

Then, Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters talks about his company and what he as to offer Michigan bear and whitetail hunters. Gary says it’s time to book your hunt for this fall.

We wrap it all up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week Dave has tasty turkey recipe.

Radio Rundown for First Weekend in May

It’s a broad based show coming up this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, “Michigan’s Morel Master” Clayton Edney joins me to talk about mushrooming. Clayton says the tasty fungus is popping up across the state.

Then Laura Scharich of the Michigan Crossbow Federation talks about a fundraising 3D shoot coming up in a couple of weeks. That shoot is open to all archers, not just crossbow shooters.

Hour number two features Steve Winters of the Michigan Bowfishing Association. Steve has great advice to get started in the sport that used to be called “carp shooting”.

Tony Hansen of MUCC finishes out the hour with an update on the “Scientific Wildlife Management Package” recently approved by the state House.

Springtime fishing for bluegills and other panfish is the subject of our final hour as I talk with Dave Rose of Wildfishing. Dave is a fishing guide and outdoor writer who has some great advice on targeting those popular game fish.

We wrap it up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week Dave has a popular wild turkey recipe.
