Outdoor Magazine Radio Rundown for 4/26

We wrap up the month of April talking turkeys and fishing.

First, I tell the story of my successful Michigan turkey hunt.

Then former fishing guide Tim Roller talks about springtime trout fishing in northern Michigan.  We also discuss his University of Whitetail project designed to educate Michigan deer hunters.

Tom Campbell of  Woods-n-Waternews  joins me next.  Tom has an update on his turkey season and talks about their push to expand their Facebook page (facebook.com/WoodsnWaternews).

Hour number two features flyfishing guide Mike Schultz of Schultz Outfitters.  While  many flyfishermen will be chasing trout this opening weekend, Mike and his crew plan to target smallmouth on southeast Michigan streams.

Paul Kollmeyer of the Michigan dnr is up next to talk about the springtime wildfire season and how they can be prevented.

Michigan’s “Mr. Walleye”, Mark Martin is the focus of hour number three.  Mark talks to us from the Detroit River where he’s pre fishing for a tournament.  During the conversation the veteran angler catches a couple of nice fish and has some great advice on how to catch more walleye.

We wrap it all up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has our traditional springtime recipe of Turkey with morel mushrooms and fiddlehead ferns.

Show Rundown for Easter Weekend

It’s a busy show this Easter Weekend on Outdoor Magazine.

First, Michigan dnr fisheries biologist Todd Grischke joins me to talk about the Lake Huron fishery.  We also discuss the biological impact of harvesting spawning walleye on the Detroit River.

Then John Eberhart talks about the University of Whitetail project he’s working on with TV hunting show host Tim Roller.  John says the concept is so unique many hunters don’t yet fully understand it.

Hour two features the “Chairman of the Boards” Bruce DeShano of Offshore Tackle.  Bruce talks about the history of that company and discusses some of their more popular products.

Next, Drew YoungeDyke of mucc and Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management (CitizensWildlife) updates us on the status of the petition to fight the anti hunters in Michigan.  He also explains why his group is now using paid signature gatherers.

The hour wraps up with Nels Larsen of the Walleyes for Warriors  event coming up in June on Saginaw Bay.

Outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose (WildFishing.com) kicks off the final hour of this week’s show talking about springtime fishing and how it could be affected by the high water.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave and I talk about turkey hunting and a fundraising wild game dinner coming up.

Show Rundown for 4/12

Another show this week filled with great guests and good information.

First, Brad Dupuie of Apex Marine  (apexmarineinc.com) joins me to talk about their new Angler Qwest big water trolling tritoon.

And Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation wraps up the hour with details on a Saginaw Bay fishing charter with Captain Jeff Godi of The Michigan Experience.

Turkey hunting is the topic of the second hour as I talk with expert Greg Abbas of A-Way Outdoors (AWayHunting.com).  Greg has great advice on finding, and calling in, a longbeard this spring.

Next, I talk with Michigan dnr Biologist Pete Kailing about whitetail habitat improvement and their “Bang for the Buck” program.

Show Rundown for First Weekend in April

We kick off the new month  with some great guests again this week.

First, Eric Sherwood of Michigan based Whitetail Select joins me to talk about planting springtime food plots.

Then, Brian Wright of Williams Gunsight talks about this month’s FireSight giveaway.  To enter that contest you’ll need to “like” the Williams Facebook page.

Bow hunting for turkeys is the subject of hour number two as I talk with Tim Checkeroski of G5 Outdoors.  Tim also has tips for choosing the right broadhead for springtime gobblers.

Amy Trotter of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc) wraps up the hour with an overview of how that group will keep an eye on the DNR and their spending of license fees.

Long time friend Pat McKenna of Ameristep is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Pat talks about the evolution of Ameristep ground blinds and their newest products for turkey season.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week the chef has a very nice steelhead recipe.
