Radio Rundown for Labor Day Weekend

We wrap up the summer season with a wide range of guests and topics this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, I tell the story of my Ontario bear hunting trip.  I didn’t take an animal but had a great time at Northern Wilderness Bear Outfitters in White River.

Then, Ted Harpham of Darton Archery joins me to announce the winner of our latest contest.  Congrats to Nate Dishong of Alma Michigan for winning a DS 700 compound bow.

Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour with a preview of their big Outdoor Weekend.

Veteran Great Lakes Angler and fishing industry insider Dave Mull is up next with a look at the status of our Great Lakes Fishery.   He also talks about the growth of kayak fishing in Michigan.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Katie talks about a new program to promote several key grouse hunting areas in the state.

The Michigan Friends of NRA is the final topic of the hour as I talk with Al Herman.  Al says September is a busy month for his fundraising banquets and he encourages shooters to get involved in the program.

Biologist Brian Mastenbrook of the Michigan dnr kicks off the final hour of this week’s show.  Brian has worked with the Michigan elk herd for more than twenty years and has some interesting observations about those beautiful animals and how hunting is the best method of keep their numbers under control.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave discusses a very unusual wild game dinner he catered for a select group in Lansing.

It’s a good show to wrap up the summer season and get us heading into fall.  I hope you like it.

Radio Rundown for 8/23

It’s a little slower paced show this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

In hour number one I talk with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor Shop in Bay City.  Glenn discusses what’s hot for this fall, the status of ammo supplies and how to maintain you gun.

Michigan’s “Mr. Walleye”, Mark Martin  joins me in the second hour.  Mark and I talk about his early days of walleye fishing on Muskegon Lake and how that started his professional angling career.  As always, Mark has great advice on how to catch more fish.

Archery season prep is the topic for hour number three as I talk with Eric LaFollette of Jays Sporting Goods.  Eric is the archery department manager of their Clare store and an avid bowhunter.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week the Chef has an interesting smoked carp recipe.

Show Rundown for August 16/17

We start out this week’s show talking with outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose of Wild Fishing.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins to with a preview of their September edition.

Hour number two features Michigan dnr biologist Ashley Autinreith talking about the new deer regulations for this upcoming season.

Then Barb Avers, also from the Michigan DNR, has details on the experimental Michigan teal hunting season.

Veteran outdoor writer Richard P Smith is my guest in hour number three.  Richard and I discuss UP deer, bear and wolf populations.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.

Radio Rundown for Weekend of August 9th.

First, I talk with houndsman Darrell Jonnet.  He lost two dogs from a wolf attack in the western U.P.  Darrell tells a very intense story about staring wolves in the eye as they attacked, and ate, his dogs.

Then, Brad Dupuis of Michigan made apex marine previews their new line of Angler Qwest boats (Angler Qwest).

Tom Campbell of woods-n-waternews wraps up the hour with a preview of their big Outdoor Weekend coming up in Imlay City.

Hour number two features Mike Thorman of the Michigan Hunting Dog Federation.  Mike makes some very interesting points when comparing bear hunting with hounds to grouse hunting with pointers.

New mucc Executive Director Dan Eichinger joins me next to talk about his vision the organization and what the challenges will be.

Fishing expert, educator and researcher Mark Romanack of Fishing411 has the third hour of this week’s show.  Mark and I discuss trolling tactics and how the use of dive curves can help you catch more fish.

Radio Rundown for First Show in August

We kick off the new month with some great guests and information this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio show.

First, Drew YoungeDyke of mucc joins me to talk about the latest attempts by anti hunting groups to impose their will on the people of Michigan.

Then Brian Wright from Williams Gunsight has a reminder about their monthly FireSight giveaway.

We head south to Ohio in hour number two as I talk with Bill Pyles of Ohio Bowhunting Outfitters (BowOutfitters.com).  Bill is right in the middle of big buck country in the Buckeye state and he’s offered a discount to Outdoor Magazine Radio listeners.

Next,  it’s the fishery on the Bay’s De Noc that is the topic of discussion as Jessica Mistak of the Michigan dnr joins me.

The final hour of this week’s show features walleye angler and electronics expert Lance Valentine of Walleye 101.  Lance is a wealth of information about how to use your fish finder, side scan sonar and GPS to catch more fish.
