Radio Rundown for 9/27

We wrap up the month of September this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

First, outdoor writer and big game hunting expert Richard P Smith joins me to talk about the Michigan bear season and the outlook for whitetail hunting in the Upper Peninsula.

Then Bryan Lowe from the Michigan Buck Pole (mibuckpole.com) talks about their online, virtual buck pole and the great response they got from the Michigan youth hunt.

Hour number two kicks off with Ted Harpham of Michigan based Darton Archery.  Ted has details on that company’s new shoot through riser on two of their target bows.

Next, another Michigan company….Diamondbuck  Blinds is featured as I talk with Alan Hill.  Alan talks about unique material their blinds are made from and discusses the size and configuration options.

Holly Vaughn of the michigan dnr is up next.  Holly describes a new program designed to encourage waterfowl hunters to use the state’s managed areas.

The final hour of this week’s show features Doug Deming of the Fish Point Lodge on Saginaw Bay.  Doug is an expert big water hunting guide and has some great tips and advice

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice  venison recipe.

Rundown for September 20/21

We get ready to kick off fall this weekend on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, dnr biologist and avid hunter Al Stewart talks about upland game bird hunting in northern Michigan.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has details on their October edition.

Fishing Guide Lance Keen of Steelhead Hunter charters joins me with advice on how to fish for big king salmon in the river.

Next, mucc‘s Drew YoungeDyke talks about the why there will be no Michigan wolf hunt this fall and how HSUS is trying to exploit the situation.

Hour three features outdoor writer and expert outdoorsman Tom Lounsbury.  Tom and I shoot the breeze about all things outdoor this time of year in Michigan.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has an elegant venison recipe.

Outdoor Magazine Radio Rundown for 9/13

First, outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose (WildFishing) joins me to talk about fall fishing in the Great Lakes State.  Dave says this is the time of year when anglers don’t need a big boat to have access to big fish.

Then Brian Lowe, one of the founders of the Michigan Buck Pole (mibuckpole.com) joins me to talk about their online, virtual buck pole.  We’ll have periodic updates from those guys throughout the season.

Hour two features Jerry Wydner of the Hunter Safety System.  That company pioneered the concept of tree stand safety and they still lead the category today.  Here’s a picture of me with company owners John and Jerry Wydner, along with their partner Jim Barta on a bowhunting trip in Ohio.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr wraps up the hour talking about the upcoming youth hunt and early doe seasons.

Recovering deer with dogs is the topic of hour number three as I talk with Kevin Hanus of the Rose City Deer Tracking Hounds.  Kevin says the use of a good tracking dog can improve the odds of finding an animal.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar and another great wild game recipe.

Show Rundown for Weekend of 9/6

We kick off this week’s show talking with Drew YoungeDyke of mucc.  Drew talks about the recent battle with HSUS and what we can expect next.

Then, Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation (ForwardCorp.com) joins me to talk about that family owned company and how one of their lucky customers can win a Darton Archery Scorpion crossbow package.

Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour with another preview of their big outdoor weekend.

The second hour kicks off with Tim Checkeroski of G5 Outdoors.   Tim talks that Michigan based company and has some great tips for choosing the right broadheads.

Then, successful Michigan elk hunter Milt Bryant joins me to talk about his hunt of a lifetime, and the beautiful bull he shot at more than four hundred yards.

Fred Post of the Sanford American Legion post wraps up the hour talking about our second annual “Salute to Veterans” event coming up next Saturday, the 13th.

In the final hour of this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show I talk with an old friend of mine, Chad Stearns of Jays Sporting Goods.  Chad recently returned from a great Alaskan hunting adventure and he tells us the details of his hunt.

We wrap it all  up with wild game  chef Dixie Dave Minar.  Dave talks about the menu he has planned for the Salute to Veterans event…and even has time to sneak in another great wild game dinner.
