Show Rundown for Last Weekend in “Rocktober”

We wrap up the month with more great guests and information on this week’s show.

First, Drew YoungeDyke of mucc joins me to talk about the truth behind Proposals 1 and 2 on the Michigan ballot.  Both proposals are legally moot, but the anti hunters are using them as propaganda tools.

Then Mick Dingman, father of 11 year old Gavin Dingman, talks about the threats his family has received after Gavin legally shot an albino buck in Michigan.

Mitch Mountney of mibuckpole wraps up the hour.  Mitch says the number of pictures submitted to their website continues to grow.

Hour number two features master gunsmith and shooting expert Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor  Shop in Bay City.  Glenn says don’t wait till the last minute to sight in your deer rifle and he has some great tips to get make your gun as accurate as possible.

Then Carol Rose of the newly formed Michigan Wildlife Council joins me.  Carol has information on a new project designed to educate the non hunting and fishing public about how valuable our lifestyle is.

Whitetails during the rut is the subject of conversation during hour three as I talk with Michigan icon Fred Abbas of A-Way Outdoors (awayhunting.com).  Fred talks about “hunting the does” during this key time of year and the use of “cluster scrapes” to confuse big bucks.

We wrap it up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice pheasant recipe.

Outdoor Magazine Radio for 10/18

We continue the month of “Rocktober”  by talking first with Lance Valentine of Walleye 101.  Lance has some great advice on fishing for fall walleye in Michigan.

Then, I talk with Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews.  Tom has details of their November edition.  Here’s a hint, there are lots of articles on deer hunting.

Hour two features veteran waterfowl hunter George Lynch of Lynch Mob Calls.  George talks about the finer points of calling waterfowl and using flags to attract geese.

Pheasant hunting in Michigan is the subject of hour three as I talk with Tom Lounsbury.  Tom says today’s birds are much different than they used to be and hunting them has changed over the years.

We wrap it up with Wild Game Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice duck recipe.

Radio Rundown for October 11/12

It’s a fast paced show this week on Outdoor Magazine radio.

First, Drew YoungeDyke of mucc joins me to talk about the proposals on the Michigan November ballot.  Drew says proposals 1 and 2 carry no legal weight, but it’s still important to send a message to the anti hunters.  He encourages a “yes” vote on both ballot questions.

Then Karl Ieuter of the Ieuter Insurance Group has some good advice on how to insure your hunting and fishing gear.

Next, Allan Goetz of MiBuckpole has an update on the bucks being sent in to that website.

Hour two features whitetail hunter John Eberhart (deerjohn.net).  John has advice for bowhunters during the early season and tells the story of how he shot a beautiful buck opening morning in northern Michigan.

The hour wraps up with Dwayne Etter of the Michigan dnr.  Dwayne has an update on the feral hog problem in Michigan.

The wild pig conversation continues in the final hour of this week’s show as I talk with veteran hunter Nick Ostroski.  Nick has a lot of experience hunting wild boars in Michigan.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week the chef has another great venison recipe.

Rundown for First Weekend in October

We kick of the month of “Rocktober” with a little slower paced show this week.

First, Master Taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio (TrophyRoomMichigan.com) joins me to talk about choosing the right taxidermist for your trophy. By the way, RJ has opened a new studio in West Michigan (Allendale, near Grand Valley State University).

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has a look at the latest edition of their monthly magazine.

Hour two features Greg Abbas of A-Way Hunting.  Greg is an expert whitetail hunter who loves to share his knowledge about targeting trophy bucks.  Greg has great advice on calling deer, as well as using scent to attract them.  We also talk about his invention consulting business.

Fall muskie fishing is the topic in the final hour of this week’s show as I talk with veteran angler and Michigan dnr fisheries technician Don Barnard.   Don says fall is the best time to target the trophy fish because they’re feeding heavily in preparation for winter.

We wrap it all up once again with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has another very nice venison recipe.
