Radio Rundown for 11/22

It looks like we’re getting an early start to winter here in Michigan and that’s  a topic of discussion on this week’s Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

First, I talk with retired Coast Guardsman Joe Marion.  Joe is an expert in cold water rescues and surviving exposure to near freezing water.  He has some great advice for early season ice fisherman.

Next, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has a preview of their December edition.

Hour two kicks off with Lance Valentine of Walleye101.  Lance has great advice for catching big fall walleye (if you can get to them before the water freezes over).

Then Assistant michigan dnr Law Enforcement Chief Dean Molnar joins me to talk about the new group of conservation officers in the field for this fall’s firearm deer season.  He also says there’s another big class scheduled to start early next year.

Muzzleloading season is the topic in hour three as I talk with Dave Hildebrandt of Jays Sporting Goods.  Dave says most of today’s muzzleloaders are extremely accurate and he has great advice for getting started in the sport.

We wrap it up once again with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a great venison recipe.

Another busy show filled with good guests and information.  I hope you like it.

Radio Rundown for 11/15

We start out this week’s show talking about the Michigan firearm deer season.  600,000 hunters are expected to hit the woods for the two week season and they’ll face a wide variety of conditions across the state.

Then, Michigan’s Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa ( joins me to talk about the early start to the winter season and what we can expect this year (hint…lots of snow and cold).

Bryan Lowe of the Michigan Buck Pole ( wraps up the hour talking about that online, virtual buck pole.

We switch topics to kick off the second hour as I talk with outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose (wild  Days says there’s some good whitefish action off the piers this time of year and has advice on how to catch them.

Then it back to whitetails as Rob Miller of the Michigan Deer Trackn Hounds  joins me to talk about using dogs to find wounded animals.  Here’s a list of Michigan trackers.

Noted outdoor writer and expert whitetail hunter Richard P Smith  is featured in hour number three.  Richard talks about how the deep early season snow could affect UP deer and hunters.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave talks about the importance of getting the tenderloins from and animal and has a great recipe for how to cook them.

Primarily a whitetail theme this week in honor of Michigan’s opener, but enough variety to appeal to  lots of folks who love the outdoors.  I hope you like the show.
