Rundown for Last Weekend in March

We wrap up the month of March with some great guests and information this week.

First, Richard P. Smith joins me to talk about bear predation on whitetail fawns in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Then Michigan United Conservation Club’s  (mucc.org)   Drew YoungeDyke has an update on the proposed federal legislation to take wolves off the endangered species list.

In hour two we head to the Manistee River for a steelhead fishing report with Capt. Lance Keene of  the Steelhead Hunter guide service.  Lance says the river has lots of fish in it now and conditions for catching them are very good.

New Michigan fishing regulations are up next as I talk with Nick Popoff of the Michigan dnr.  Nick says there are several new guidelines facing anglers this season.

The third hour features fishing expert, outdoor writer and TV host Mark Romanack of Fishing 411.  Mark talks about springtime fishing with an emphasis on jigging for walleye in the Detroit River.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has another tasty coho recipe.

Show Rundown for March 21/22

Turkey, fish and archery are the main topics of discussion this week on the Outdoor Magazine radio show.

First, Tim Checkeroski of G5 Outdoors joins me to talk about bowhunting for gobblers.  He also has some thoughts on using fixed blade broadheads vs expandables.

Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews previews the April edition of that magazine.

Hour two kicks off with Michigan dnr fisheries biologist Scott Heintzelman.  Scott talks about stripping steelhead eggs on the Little Manistee River weir and gathering walleye eggs from the Muskegon River.

Next, Ted Harpham of  Darton Archery has an update on that Michigan company and describes some of their new bows and crossbows.

I talk with outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose of Wild Fishing in hour number three.  Dave has great advice on springtime fishing in Michigan.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a tasty coho recipe.

Radio Rundown for March 14/15

We kick off this weekends Outdoor Magazine radio show talking with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor Shop in Bay City.  Glenn tells of the recent attempt to ban the popular green tip .556 bullets and discusses turkey guns for the upcoming season.

Then Mike Orr of Five Orrs Charters joins me to talk about early season trolling on southern Lake Michigan.  Mike says anglers there are already on open water and getting limit catches of coho.

Next, Michigan dnr biologist Kevin Swanson has an update on the Michigan black bear population.  He says the bears here are doing well but the number of bear tags will still be down for this season.

We’re talking turkey in hour three with Greg Abbas of A-Way Outdoors (AWayHunting.com).  Greg has advice on pre season scouting for gobblers and demonstrates some of his favorite calls.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  As always, Dave has another great recipe.

Veteran steelhead angler Tim Roller is up next to talk about how water temperature affects  fish activity and behavior.

This week’s third hour features RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room Taxidermy studio.  RJ talks about how to take care of your trophy fish and game in the field so your taxidermist can give you a lifelike mount.
