Rundown for Last Weekend in May

We wrap up the month with more great guests and information.

First, Michigan dnr biologist Chad Stewart has the latest on the discovery of CWD in the Michigan deer herd.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has reaction to the news of Chronic Wasting Disease and a look at the current edition of their magazine.

Musky fishing is the topic in hour number two as I talk with charter captain Don Miller of Millers Sportfishing.  Don trolls Lake St. Clair for the giant fish and he says this will be another good season.

Next, filmmaker Kristin Ojaniemi joins me to talk about her efforts to chronicle some of Michigan’s UP deer camps and how her video might save those pieces of Michigan history. You can see some of her work at UPaRiver.net.

Old friend Tom Lounsbury joins me in the third hour.  As usual Tom and I discuss several outdoor topics and items….including turkeys, bear and guns.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice fish recipe he say you can use for salmon or trout.

Memorial Weekend Radio Rundown

We kick off this holiday weekend  with veteran outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith.   Richard talks about the bear application process and his efforts to capture the birth of a fawn on videotape.

Michigan hunting guide Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters  is up next.  Gary says he still has a few openings for the fall bear and deer season.

Dave Mull is the featured guest in hour number two.  Dave is an outdoor writer and veteran angler.  He talks about the status of the Great Lakes fishery and how that resource has evolved.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Katie reminds us that time is running out to apply for a Michigan bear or elk tag.

Bowfishing is the subject of our final hour this week as I talk with Steve Winters of the Michigan Bowfishing Association (bowfishbam.com).   Steve says bowfishing continues it’s rapid growth in popularity and he has some great advice on getting started.

We wrap it all up once again with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has some great grilling tips.

Rundown for Mother’s Day Weekend

Giant lake sturgeon are the opening topic of this week’s show as I talk with the “Sturgeon General”, Brenda Archambo.  Brenda was one of the founding members of the Black Lake Chapter of Sturgeon for Tomorrow.  This time Brenda talks about the spawning run currently underway in northern Michigan.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Katie reminds us that May is the month to apply for bear and elk tags.  She also puts in a plug for the Pure Michigan Hunt.

Hour number two kicks off with charter captain Paul Schlafley of Riverside Charters in Manistee.  Paul talks about the early season fishing action so far and has details of a giveaway in con unction with the folks at the Forward Corporation.

Ed Eisch of the Michigan DNR wraps up the hour talking about the state’s fish hatchery system and the fish stocking program underway right now.

Bass fishing is the topic in hour number three as I talk with fishing guide Jerry Gostenik (GreatLakesBassFishing).  Jerry says Michigan is one of the top states in the county for smallmouth action….and he says Lake St. Clair is the best water in Michigan for smallies.

We wrap up this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a  very nice turkey recipe.
