Radio Rundown for August 1st.

We kick off the new month this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, Nick DeShano of Off Shore Tackle joins me to talk about their new SST Pro Mag planer board.

Then Darton Archery‘s Ted Harpham has details about the upcoming IBO Word Championships and also the importance of a good bowstring.

Hour two features long range shooting expert Paul Phillips.  Paul is a former marine and current officer on the US Rifle Team.  Paul talks about the strong Michigan connection on the team.

Elyse Walters from the Michigan dnr is up next.   Elyse has details on their state of the art Oden fish hatchery.

Our third hour kicks off with Eric LaFollette of Jays Sporting Goods.  Eric talks about the getting ready for the upcoming bow season.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice salmon recipe.

Radio Rundown for July 25/26

It’s a busy show this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

First, some thoughts on a recent Michigan dnr news release about last year’s disappointing deer season.  I also talk about the discussion of a possible moose hunt on Isle Royale.

Then, Bill Pyles of Ohio Bowhunting Outfitters ( joins me with details of his operation and why so many Michigan hunters go there.

Next, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has a preview of their August edition and looks ahead to the big Outdoor Weekend coming up in September.

The second hour kicks off with captain Davi James of Fish Hunter Charters in Frankfort.  David talks about the changing Great Lakes Fishery and how lake trout have become a big part of their catch.

Drew YoungeDyke is up next.  Drew has some insight into the recent court decision again HSUS and also talks about the CWD issue in Michigan whitetails.

Bill Hoffman wraps up the hour.  First he has details of a big archery shoot coming up at his club in August ( and also his writing career (

Forensic science and how it can be used in the war on poaching is the topic of hour number three.  David Stephens spent much of his career solving crimes in the Michigan State Police Lab but now he’s turned his attention to wildlife.

Show Rundown for July 18/19

Rundown for July 11/12

First, master gunsmith Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor  Shop in Bay City joins me to talk about maintaining your firearms.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about  how they find new outdoor writers for their magazine.

Hour two kicks of with John King of Halcyon Charters.  John fishes the Detour area and also the Straits of Mackinac for salmon and trout.

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc is up next with an update on their “On the Ground” program.

Lucky Michigan hunter Don Barnard wraps up the hour talking about how he drew bear and elk tags for the upcoming season.

Tim Roller of the Whitetail Journey TV show is the featured guest in hour number three.  Tim and I discuss the logistics of producing an outdoor television show and he has some advice on getting ready for deer season.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time Dave has a very nice fish recipe.

Independence Day Show Rundown

First, Lisa Jackson of the Michigan dnr  joins me to talk about the elk and bear drawing process.  Far more people apply than are successful and that leads to some questions about the system.

Then Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa ( and Mlive) talks about why the summer has been windy and cooler than normal so far.  He also says that weather pattern should shift in the next couple of weeks.

Hour two features outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith.  Richard talks about bear hunting in Michigan and how to use trail cameras to scout for the upcoming deer season.

The topic of Michigan snakes wraps up the hour as I talk with Hannah Schauer of the Michigan DNR.  Hanna is producing a series of videos to highlight each of our 18 species.

Lake Michigan charter captain Paul Schlafley of River Side Charters  in Manistee is my guest in the final hour of this week’s Outdoor Magazine show.  Paul talks about how the weather has affected fishing so far this season and has great advice for catching early morning king salmon and lots of lake trout.

It’s a little slower pace this week, but still lots of great information.  I hope you like the show.
