Show Rundown for the Last Weekend in November

We wrap up the month with some great guests and information on this  edition of Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, Tony Demboski of the Upper Peninsula Sportsmens Alliance joins me to talk about issues facing UP hunters.  Tony is especially concerned about the loss of deer yarding areas.

Then Bryan Lowe of the Michigan Buckle (mibuckpole.com) has some cool deer hunting stories based on pictures posted to their website.

Hour two kicks off with master gunsmith Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor shop in Bay City.  Glenn has advice on the best way to store your guns during the off season.

Amy Trotter from the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org)  is up next.  Amy talks about their OTG program, plus interesting activity in Lansing and Washington affecting outdoor enthusiasts.

Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr wraps up the hour with an update on CWD and that mule deer found dead along a Michigan roadway.

Our final hour features Tim Roller of the Whitetail Journey TV Show.  Tim talks about hunting deer in the late season and also goes back to his years as a fishing guide to discuss water temperature and how that affects steelhead fishing.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very hearty venison recipe.

Radio Rundown for Weekend of 11/21

Fall hunting and fishing topics are discussed this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio show.

First, Dr. Tammy Newcomb of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about asian carp.  Dr. Newcomb says the fight against that aquatic invader continues and she outlines the current status, as well as the long term goals.  Dr. Newcomb is confident those fish can be kept out of the Great Lakes if funding and political pressure continue.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about the Michigan firearm deer season so far and previews their December edition.

Hour two kicks off with muzzleloading expert Dave Hillebrand of Jays Sporting Goods.  Dave has great advice on buying the right gun and accessories, then getting the best accuracy from that rifle.

Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Chad is the Big Game Specialist for the department and deer are one of his priorities.  Chad talks about the season so far, the impact of CWD and the future of deer hunting in Michigan.

The final hour features Lance Valentine of  Walleye 101.  Lance is a veteran angler who specializes in teaching others to be more productive on the water.  Lance talks about late season trolling for walleye and he unveils his new website TeachinFishin.com.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has another nice venison recipe.

Rundown For Opening Weekend

First, we find out what the weather will be like for this firearm deer season with Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa (FarmerWeather.com).  Mark also looks ahead to the winter and has some thoughts on what we can expect.

Then, Bryan Lowe of the Michigan Buck Pole talks about their online buck pole (MiBuckPole.com) and tells us how to post pictures there.

Hour two features one of the country’s top whitetail experts…John Ozoga.  John is a retired wildlife biologist from the Michigan dnr.  He has some very interesting comments about the UP deer herd and what can be done to improve the hunting there.

Drew YoungeDyke of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) is up next.  Drew talks about the importance of deer hunting in our state.

We wrap up the hour talking with Dennis Pace.  Dennis is a special curator of the Webster Marble display at the state museum.  Marble is called the “UP’s Greatest Inventor” and was responsible for creating the Marble Knife Company.  Details at Michigan.gov/museum.

Hour three kicks off with Assistant DNR Law Enforcement Chief Dean Molnar.  Dean has advice for hunters on staying safe and legal during this firearm deer season.  He also talks about how the job of a Conservation Officer has changed over the years.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice venison recipe.

Radio Rundown for 11/7

We kick off this week’s Outdoor Magazine Radio show talking with Al Stewart of the Michigan dnr.  Al is the Upland Game Bird Specialist for the department.  He reminds hunters about the leftover fall turkey tags and that the season ends on the 14th.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me to talk about getting ready for firearm deer season.

Hour two features outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith.  Richard talks about the outlook for gun season in the UP.  He also reminds listeners about his Michigan black bear survey.  Folks who see a bear can email Richard at mibearcount@yahoo.com with the details.

Todd Wills of the DNR wraps up the hour.  Todd has information on the new Lake Huron research vessel called the “Tanner”.

Master taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room  kicks off the final hour of this week’s show.  RJ has great advice on how to preserve your deer hunting memories by choosing the right taxidermist.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave talks about field prep of your deer, then has a great venison recipe.
