Show Rundown for Easter Weekend

This week’s show kicks off with Carol Rose of the Michigan Wildlife Council.   Carol talks about the “Here.  For Generations” campaign to educate Michigan’s non hunters and anglers.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me.  Tom talks about the early days of that magazine and why they’ve been so successful for more than thirty years.

Morel mushrooms are the opening topic of discussion in hour number two.  Clayton Edney, a guy I call “Michigan’s Morel Master”,  discusses the early start to this year’s mushroom season and has great advice on finding the tasty fungus.  You can track the season on Clayton’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/michiganmorels).

Pure Michigan Hunt winner Mike Scherzer is up next.  Mike talks about the gear he won and plans for his upcoming hunts.

Derrick Poet is the featured guest in hour number three.  Derrick is a hard core turkey hunter who loves to chase longbeards with a bow.  Derrick talks about blinds, broadheads, decoy set up and more.  He also discusses his Six 11 Custom Bowstring business  (facebook.com/six11archery).

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice rabbit recipe (in honor of the easter bunny).

Food plots are the opening topic of discussion this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio show as I talk with Eric Sherwood of Whitetail Select.  Eric talks about where to plant a food plot, how to prepare the ground and what seed to plant.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews give a preview of their April edition.

Hour two kicks off with master taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy RoomTaxidermy studio in Allendale.  RJ describes how to judge the quality of a taxidermists work.

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc is up next. Drew talks about the new “Here. For Generations” campaign to educate the non hunters and anglers in Michigan about the importance of what we do.

Scott Szafranski of the Linwood Beach Marina wraps up the hour.  Scott talks about the early spring trolling action for walleye on Saginaw Bay.

Fishing is also the topic of our final hour as Mark Romanck of Fishing411 joins me.  Mark talks about fishing for giant pike in Canada during ice-out conditions, jigging for Detroit River walleye and he also has some great trolling tips.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar of Oscar and Joey’s Roadhouse.  This time Dave has a very nice walleye recipe.

Rundown for March 12/13

We kick off this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show talking about the crazy weather with meteorologist Mark Torregrossa (FarmerWeather.com).  Way back in September,  Mark accurately predicted what this winter would be like.  Now he gives us his thoughts on the spring and summer weather patterns.  Here’s a hint…be sure to get your air conditioner tuned up early this year.

Then Conservation Officer Tony Soave (Michigan.gov/dnr) joins me to talk about the upcoming walleye season closure on Michigan rivers and what that means for anglers.

Turkey hunting is the opening topic in hour number two as I talk with Brandon Ziegler from Jays Sporting Goods.  Brandon has great advice on choosing the right turkey gun, choke tube and ammo for longbeards.  We also discuss the importance of patterning your gun before the season.

Next, Lee Osterland of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about prescription burns and how the department uses fire to improve habitat.

Veteran outdoor writer Tom Lounsbury is featured in our final hour.  Tom is a lifelong outdoorsman from Michigan’s Thumb and he always has a very interesting perspective on hunting and fishing related issues.

We wrap up this week’s show with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  As always, Dave has a very nice wild game recipe.

Radio Rundown for March 5/6

We kick off the new month with a wide range of topics on this edition of Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, Jorden Susewitz of the Extreme Predator Hunt has a wrap up of their competition and some late season coyote hunting tips.

Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about the spring hunting and fishing shows and why his magazine has a presence at each one.

Hour two kicks off with southern Lake Michigan Charter Captain Mike Orr of Five Orrs Charters.  Mike talks about early season trolling for coho and browns in warm water discharge outlets.

Then Drew YoungeDyke of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) brings us up to date on proposed legislation in Washington to de-list Michigan wolves.

Brad Dupuie of Michigan based Qwest Pontoons wraps up the hour with details on the Mid Michigan boat show coming up March 11-13, and how you can see the popular Angler Qwest  at that show.

Springtime fishing is the subject in our final hour as I talk with river guide and charter captain Paul Schlafley of RiverSide Charters in Manistee.  Paul has advice on river fishing for steelhead and early season, big water trolling for browns.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps up the show with a nice walleye recipe.
