Show Rundown for the Weekend of August 27/28

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me to talk more about their big Outdoor Weekend coming up September 9-11 at the Eastern Michigan fairgrounds in Imlay City.

Hour two features a conversation with Kyle Luttig about hunting bear and coyotes with dogs.  Kyle says his sport is often understood and he wants folks to know more about it.

Ed Eisch of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Ed says their hatcheries have produced a bumper crop of fish for stocking in Michigan water.

Hour three features one of the most knowledgeable deer hunters I know, John Eberhart. John talks about patterning trophy bucks, hunting standing corn, using Scent Lok to control human odor and much more.  You can learn more at John’s website

Rundown for August 20/21

Tom Beecher of Michigan based Vanguard kicks off this week’s show.  Vanguard makes top quality optics and accessories.  I’ve been working with Vanguard for a few months now and continue to be impressed by the quality of their products and emphasis on customer service.


Tom Campbell of  Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour talking about their September edition and the upcoming Outdoor Weekend in Imlay City.

Hour two features Lance Valentine of Walleye101. Lance is an expert angler and respected outdoor educator.  He’s also a new member of the Angler Qwest team.

Drew YoungeDyle of mucc is up next.  Drew talks about an upcoming OTG (On The Ground) project in the UP and his routine for getting in shape for the hunting season.

Fishing is the topic of discussion in the final hour of this week’s Outdoor Magazine show.  Brad Smyth of Detroit Outdoor Adventures ( talks about musky and walleye fishing, as well as a recent to trip to Ontario for some world class steelhead fishing on Lake Erie.

As usual, Dixie Dave wraps up the show, this time with a very nice salmon recipe.

Radio Rundown for August 13/14

There’s an interesting lineup of guests and topics this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, avid outdoorsman Jeff Hammond has details on trapping crayfish from Michigan streams and lakes.  He says it’s a lot of fun and those crayfish are excellent eating.



Then, Scott Szafranski of the Linwood Beach Marina talks about perch fishing on Saginaw Bay.  That fishery is starting to heat up and shows a lot of promise for late summer and early fall.

Hour two features veteran charter captain Ed Retherford of Trout Scout Charters on northern Lake Huron.  Ed says the fishing has been pretty good this year, including a mixed bag of salmon, trout and even walleye.



Then, Hanna Schauer of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk wildlife education classes offered to schools at no cost.

Michigan based Darton Archery is featured in hour three of this week’s show as I talk with Ted Harpham.  Ted talks about their company history and current lineup of compounds and crossbows.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.   This time Dave has a very nice bear recipe.

Rundown for First Weekend in August

We kick off the new month with a variety topics on this edition of the Outdoor Magazine radio show.

First, Brad Dupuie of Qwest Pontoons joins me to talk about the new Angler Qwest model for 2017 and some improvements to existing models.

Then Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews has a look ahead at their September edition and the big Outdoor Weekend coming up after Labor Day.

Hour two kicks off with charter captain Lance Keene of Steelhead Hunter charters out of Manistee.  Lance says the kings have shown up and they’re running big this year.

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc is up next with a discussion about the status of hunting and fishing today.

Outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith joins me in hour three.  Richard talks about baiting for bear and field judging those animals.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice walleye recipe.
