Radio Rundown for First Weekend in “Rocktober”.

We kick off the month of October talking with Ted Harpham of Darton Archery.  Ted talks about their new 2017 Maverick and teases us with talk of their other new models to be unveiled in January at the Archery Trade Association show.

Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation wraps up the hour.  Emily has details of their latest promotional give away involving Slayer Blinds from Standish Fabricating.

Hour two kicks off with Master Taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room  Taxidermy Studio in Allendale.  RJ has great advice on taking care of your trophy in the field so you can get the best mount possible

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc is up next.   Drew talks about the upcoming bow season, his plans to bear hunt in the remote western Upper Peninsula and some recent action taken by the Michigan United Conservation Clubs.

We switch gears and talk fishing in the final hour of this week’s show.  Captain Paul Schlafley of Riverside Charters joins me to talk about fall salmon and trout fishing on the big lake and also steelhead fishing on the Manistee River.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time the veteran wild game master has a very nice venison recipe.

Show Rundown for First Weekend of Fall

We officially kick off fall this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, Rob Miller talks about using dogs to track and recover wounded deer.  He says hunters should have the number of a local tracker in their wallet or phone before heading out.

Then, Tony Demboski joins me.  Tony is the President of the Upper Peninsula Sportsmens Alliance.  Tony talks about hunting and fishing issues in Michigan’s UP today.

Next, Mike Smalligan of the Michigan dnr describes their “Wheels to Woods” program designed to get kids outdoors.

Pure Michigan Hunt winner Maykayla Fleetwood wraps up the hour.  She tells the story of shooting a trophy bull elk and Michigan bear in the same day.

Greg Abbas of A-Way Outdoors is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Greg talks about using scents, mock scrapes and calling whitetails.  He also has advice on bringing new products into the outdoor marketplace.  You can learn more at

Radio Guests for 9/17

Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters is up first on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show.  Gary talks about bear hunting in Michigan and his new whitetail guide service in Missouri.

Then, Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews  joins me with a wrap up of their big Outdoor Weekend and a preview of the October edition of the magazine.

Hour two kicks off with Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr.  Chad is the whitetail specialist for the state and we discuss the outlook for the season, status of CWD and what can be done to improve deer numbers in the UP.

Drew YoungeDyke from mucc wraps up the hour talking about a concept he calls “hunt your hunt”.

We switch topics for our final hour of this week’s show and talk fall fishing with Mark Martin.  Mark says the fall is a great time to catch trophy fish because they’re putting on th feed bag for winter.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave and I talk about a live Facebook event coming up Wednesday the 21st at 8PM.  The event will be at Oscar and Joey’s Roadhouse where one lucky guest will win a new Darton Archery Viper SS crossbow package.

Radio Rundown for September 10/11

Jeania Canel of Jays Sporting Goods is my first guest on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show.  Jeania is the manager of the gun department in their Clare store and has worked in the business for more than three decades.  This time, we’re talking shotguns for the fall hunting seasons.

Hour two kicks off with Doug Deming of the Fish Point Lodge on Saginaw Bay.  Doug talks about the walleye fishery there this past summer and looks ahead to fall waterfowl hunting.

Al Stewart of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Al is a wildlife biologist and hard core upland bird hunter.  Al has a preview of the Michigan grouse and woodcock seasons.

Veteran outdoor writer Tom Lounsbury is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Tom talks to us from a goose blind and says the action on that particular day was pretty slow.  We also discuss bear and deer hunting…along with several other topics.

The show wraps up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  Dave and I talk about an upcoming Facebook live event at Oscar and Joey’s restaurant scheduled for the evening of the 21st.  The chef also has a very nice wild game recipe.

Labor Day Rundown

We celebrate Labor Day and kick off the unofficial fall season this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, Jon Ross of Wolf Creek Productions joins me to talk about a new TV series they’re shooting in Michigan.  The crew is following conservation officers on patrol for a show called the “Wardens” that will air early next year.

Then Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation kicks off a new promotion to give away a Darton Archery crossbow package.

Lance Senske of Michigan made Fortress Blinds wraps up the hour talking about his blinds and where you can buy them.

Hour two features Tim Roller of the Whitetail Journey TV show.  Tim talks about getting ready for the fall bow season.  He also refers back to his days as a fishing guide and explains  why water temperature is important in fall river fishing for kings and steelhead.

Drew YoungeDyke from mucc is up next.  He describes their new quarterly magazine format and talks about the role the Michigan United Conservation Clubs play in regard to hunters and anglers.

The Michigan Elk herd is the topic of discussion in hour number three as Michigan dnr Regional Wildlife Biologist Brian Mastenbrook joins me.  Brian talks about the elk range, their behavior and how hunting is used to keep the herd under control.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps up this week’s show with a very nice goose recipe in honor of Michigan’s early goose season.
