Show Rundown for 10/22

We kick off this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show talking about processing wild game. Mike Horswill of Jays Sporting Goods is an expert at processing venison and he has some great advice.

Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about the November edition of their magazine.

The Lake Michigan salmon fishery is the opening topic of our second hour as I talk with Michigan dnr fisheries biologist Jay Wesley.  Jay talks about the recent decision to cut salmon stocks by almost fifty percent and what that could mean to the resource.

Ray Rustem of the DNR is up next with details on the Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger program.

The final hour of this week’s show features veteran outdoor writer and expert hunter Tom Lounsbury.  Tom talks about the history of pheasant hunting in Michigan and how hunters today can be successful.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar who has a very nice venison recipe.

Mid October Radio Rundown

Jim Felgenauer of the St. Clair Chapter of Sturgeon for Tomorrow (StClairSturgeon.org) is my first guest on this week’s show.  Jim and I talk about our recent sturgeon fishing adventure on the St. Clair River.

Allan Goetz of the Michigan Buck Pole group (MiBuckPole.com) is up next talking about their online virtual buck pole and their philosophy of putting people ahead of deer.

Lt. Jim Gorno of the Michigan dnr joins me in the second hour.  Jim has been a conservation officer for thirty years and has some interesting insight into how the job has changed over the years.  He also has advice on staying safe and legal in the woods this fall.

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc  is up next.  Drew tells the story of his recent successful whitetail hunt in Northern Michigan.

Retired fisheries technician Don Barnard kicks off the final hour.  Don is an avid musky fisherman and says fall is the best time to catch a trophy fish.

Jeff Poet of  Jays Sporting Goods is my first guest on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show.  Jeff talks about the Cabelas buy out by Bass Pro Shops and how that might affect the industry.  He also talks about the history of his store and why they’ve been successful for 45 years.

Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me to talk about the upcoming November edition of their magazine.

Hour two kicks off with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor Shop in Bay City, Michigan.  Glenn describe the process of sighting in a deer rifle and talks about why their underground ranges are a great place to get ready for the season.

Monique Ferris of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Monique has details on the Hunter Access Program (michigan.gov/hap).

The hour wraps up with insurance expert Karl Ieuter of the Ieuter Insurance Group talking about protecting our valuable hunting and fishing gear.

Outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Richard talks about his successful black bear hunt in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and plans for his upcoming deer hunt.
