Radio Rundown for this Weekend (12/16)

Now that ice fishing season is here, we kick off this week’s show with advice on staying safe from retired Coast Guardsman Joe Marion.  Joe is also an avid ice angler and has some great suggestions for preventing an accident on the ice.

Then Karl Ieuter of the Ieuter  Insurance Group dispels the rumor that your vehicle isn’t covered while on the ice.

We continue the ice fishing theme in hour two as I talk with Mark Romanack of Fishing 411 TV.  Mark has some great advice for targeting panfish and other species on first ice.

Next, Brian Mastenbrook of the Michigan dnr has an update on the December elk hunt.   He says the department uses the hunt as a management tool to control the elk population, but for a lucky group of hunters, it can be the hunt of a lifetime.

The hour wraps up with Ed Roy of the Michigan Wildlife Council (HereForMiOutdoors.org).  Ed has an update on the “Here for Generations” campaign to promote hunting and fishing in Michigan.

Coyote hunting is the topic in the final hour of this weeks show as I talk with Blaine Bailer of Jays Sporting Goods.  Blaine is a veteran predator hunter and has great advice on getting started.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week the chef has a very nice rabbit recipe.

I hope you like the show.

Radio Rundown for this weekend (12/9/17)

We start out this week’s Outdoor Magazine show with a conversation about the latest on CWD with Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr.  More cases are being found and Chad says its important hunters continue to submit their deer for sampling through the rest of the season.

Then Randy Jorgenson of Woods-n-Waternews  talks about that publication and how they got started more than thirty years ago.

Hour two features veteran beagle man Corky Leque.  Corky talks about the appeal of running bunnies with beagles and describes the differences in hunting beagles.

Next, Amy Trotter from mucc has an update on her organization and what they’re doing to protect our natural resources and promote the outdoor lifestyle.

In hour number three I talk with veteran outdoor writer and hunting expert Richard P Smith.  Richard talks about his deer season so far, and deer hunting across the UP this year.

Remember, if you can’t hear the show on your local radio station, you can listen to the podcast.  The show is available on iTunes, the Mike Avery Outdoors website and the facebook page (facebook.com/outdoormagazine) as well.
