Rundown for October 7/8

The topic of “automatic knives”, also known as “switchblades” is up first on this week’s show.  Those knives will soon be legal in Michigan and Bill Hahn of Jays Sporting Goods says there’s a lot of interest in them.

Then, Bob Ransom of Primal Treestands joins me to talk about that company and their products.

Hour two features UP hunting guide Dean Hulce.  Dean owns the Wilson Creek Hunt Club and has guided hunters across North America.  We talk about the UP whitetail herd and how Michigan deer hunting has changed over the years.

Next, John Darling from the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about hunting our state’s managed waterfowl areas.

Guns are the topic in hour number three this week as I talk with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor  Shop in Bay City.   Glenn describes the process of sighting in a rifle and the importance of using the right ammunition.  He also talks about some of the more popular rifle cartridges today.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time with a very nice venison recipe.

Radio for August 6-7

We kick off the month of August this weekend on the Outdoor Magazine Radio show. First, outdoor writer and Michigan native Mike Gnatkowski joins me from his home in Nebraska. Mike made a visit to Michigan a couple of weeks ago for a whirlwind fishing trip. We talk about where he went and what he caught.

The second hour features a conversation about trail cameras with Bill Hahn of Jay’s Sporting Goods. Bill talks about the features to look for in this new generation of cameras including some he says are unnecessary. He also has some great advice on how to use trail cams to be more productive on your next hunting trip.

Dave James of Fish Hunter Charters joins me in the third hour. Dave is a charter captain on Lake Michigan out of Frankfort. He says the fishing has been pretty good this summer, with lots of big fish coming to the boat. Dave has some advice for anglers heading out on a charter fishing trip.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time dave has some suggestions on what to do with the venison left in your freezer.

The show’s a little slower pace this week, but packed with lots of great information. I hope you enjoy it.
