Rundown for the Last Weekend in April

My first guest this week is a guy I called “the most interesting man in Michigan”.  His name is Bill Hoffman (WCHoffman.com) and he’s a writer, podcaster and avid turkey hunter (among other things).  Bill talks about the world of outdoor podcaster and has some advice for Michigan turkey hunters who need more action than our state can provide.

Then, Michigan dnr Law Division Corporal Dave Painter joins me to talk about the practice of  turkey “reaping”, also known as “fanning”.  There’s been a lot of confusion in Michigan about whether it’s legal.  Officer Painter has the official word from Lansing.

Hour two kicks off with Steve Winters of the Bowfishing Association of Michigan (BowFishBam.com).  Steve talks about the popularity of bow fishing and has details on some upcoming tournaments.

Amy Trotter from the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) is up next.  Amy talks about proposed legislation that would make it tougher to bring in deer carcasses harvested in other states to help prevent the spread of CWD.

The final hour features Tim Roller of Tim Rollers Outdoor Journey.  In honor of the opening weekend of trout season we’re talking fly fishing in Michigan.  We also talk turkey hunting and walleye fishing as well.

As usual, we wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  Dave has another turkey recipe this week.

I hope you like the show.

Radio Rundown for July 25/26

It’s a busy show this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

First, some thoughts on a recent Michigan dnr news release about last year’s disappointing deer season.  I also talk about the discussion of a possible moose hunt on Isle Royale.

Then, Bill Pyles of Ohio Bowhunting Outfitters (BowOutfitters.com) joins me with details of his operation and why so many Michigan hunters go there.

Next, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has a preview of their August edition and looks ahead to the big Outdoor Weekend coming up in September.

The second hour kicks off with captain Davi James of Fish Hunter Charters in Frankfort.  David talks about the changing Great Lakes Fishery and how lake trout have become a big part of their catch.

Drew YoungeDyke is up next.  Drew has some insight into the recent court decision again HSUS and also talks about the CWD issue in Michigan whitetails.

Bill Hoffman wraps up the hour.  First he has details of a big archery shoot coming up at his club in August (LandOLakesBowmen.com) and also his writing career (WCHoffman.com).

Forensic science and how it can be used in the war on poaching is the topic of hour number three.  David Stephens spent much of his career solving crimes in the Michigan State Police Lab but now he’s turned his attention to wildlife.

Valerie Blaschka joins me next to talk about the 20th anniversary of their big Waterfowl Festival at the Bay City State Recreation Area.  You can get details at their website (FriendsofPark.org).

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  As usual, Dave has a very nice wild game recipe.

I told you it was a busy show.  I hope you like it.
