Radio Rundown to Kick Off December

First, Ted Harpham of Darton Archery joins me to unveil their 2018 lineup of bows and crossbows.

Then, Joe Grillo from Michigan Brand meats talks about their “Ham for the Holidays” program where we’ll give away a ham each week on my “Wednesday Night Live” segments.

Plus Mitch Mountney from Michigan Buck Pole talks about how the deer season is going so far.

Hour two kicks off with Dave Hildebrand from Jays Sporting Goods.  Dave is an expert when it comes to muzzleloaders and has great advice.

Then Michigan dnr‘s Caleb Putnam talks about wintertime birding and the big Christmas bird count.  We also discuss the large number of snowy owls and eagles in Michigan.

Predator hunting is the topic in hour three as I talk with Paul Cianciolo from Predator Hunter Outdoors.  Paul has great advice on coyote and fox hunting, especially after dark.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very interesting venison heart recipe.

Radio Rundown for the First Weekend in November

We kick off the new month with a wide range of topics this week.

First. Tom Beecher of Vanguard Outdoors (VanguardWorld.us) has details of a big discount program with Jays Sporting Goods.  You can get twenty percent off all Vanguard products at either Jay’s store if you use my name. “Avery”, at checkout.

Then Suzanne Miller-Allen from Blue Cross Blue Shield (bcbsm.com) talks about their “Novembeard” program.  Hunters can get a free health screening at Jay’s stores on November 8th from 9-2.  DNR personnel will also be there to answer questions.

Trophy musky fishing is the topic in the second hour as I talk with retired DNR fisheries tech and avid angler Don Barnard.  Don says this is the best time of year to target big muskies and he has great advice on finding those fish.

Michigan dnr veterinarian Dr. Kelly Straka is up next.  Kelly has the latest on CWD in Michigan.

In hour three we talk about preserving your outdoor memories with master taxidermist RJ Meyer of The Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio in Allendale.  RJ says a deer doesn’t have to be a record book animal to be worthy of putting on the wall.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  First, he has advice on proper field preparation, then Dave has a very nice barbecue venison rib recipe.

Radio Rundown for the Last Weekend in October

This week’s show kicks off with a discussion about guns with Jeania Canel of Jays Sporting Goods.  Jeania is the manager of the gun department in their Clare store and she says hunters have a great deal of choices these days.

Then Allan Goetz from the Michigan Buck Pole (MiBuckPole.com) joins me to talk about some of the animals submitted to their online buck pole.

Hour two features a conversation with Michigan outdoor writer turned big game hunting guide, Denny Geurink (dgoa.com).  Denny started hunting in Russia almost thirty years ago.  These days his hunters take more trophy brown bears than any other outfitter in the world.

Nick Green from the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) wraps up the hour.  Nick describes the role of MUCC and talks about some of the projects their working on.

Charter Captain and fishing guide Lance Keene of Trout Scout charters joins me in the final hour of this week’s show.  We talk to Lance while he’s on the Big Manistee River fishing for steelhead.  In fact, one of his customers caught a nice fish during the conversation.

Radio Rundown to Kick Off October

Allan Goetz from the Michigan Buck Pole is my first guest this week.  Allan describes how their “online buck pole” started and talks about their impressive growth.

Then Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation  joins me to talk about another giveaway.  This time it’s a hunting blind from Slayer Blinds.

Radio Rundown for the Weekend of 9/23

First, wildlife biologist Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr joins me with a preview of what to expect from the upcoming deer season.  He also talks about the biological and social impact of the youth hunt and has an update on CWD and TB in the Michigan deer herd.

Hour two kicks off with Conservation Officer Lt. Jeremy Payne.  Jeremy says they’re looking for more officers and describes what it takes to be a modern day Game Warden.  He also has some advice on staying legal in the field this fall.

Paul Yauk is up next.  Paul has details on the Michigan trail system and the upcoming national trails week program.  You can learn more about the trail system at Michigan.gov/trailsweek.

We wrap up the hour talking about pheasant hunting in Michigan.  Ken Dalton is on a crusade to get the DNR to release pheasants on state land and the movement is getting some support.  You can follow the project at mphi.info.

Matt Pedigo is the featured guest in hour number three this week.  First, Matt talks about the Michigan Wildlife Council and their “Here for Generations” campaign (HereforMiOutdoors.org).  Then, Matt puts on his Michigan bear hunters hat to discuss the state’s bear population and the number of tags issued by the DNR.

Show Rundown for September 16-17

Rundown for Labor Day Weekend

Biologist and avid upland bird hunter Al Stewart kicks off hour number three this week.  Al says Michigan is one of the top states in the country for grouse and woodcock hunting.

Guest Rundown for the First Weekend in August
