Radio Rundown for 10/14

First, Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters (WildGameDynasty.com) joins me to talk about  his bear season in the eastern UP.  We also talks about deer hunting in the Yoop and look ahead to next spring’s turkey season.

Then Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews  joins me to talk about their November edition.

In hour two, audiologist and avid hunter Mike Stewart is my first guest.  Mike describes the damage gunshots can do to our hearing and has some great advice on how to prevent it.

Then, Captain Jeff Godi of The Michigan Experience talks about waterfowl hunting on Saginaw Bay and how the high water could affect hunters this season.

Outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Richard tells the story of his successful Michigan bear hunt and talks about bear and deer hunting in Michigan.

Radio Guests for 9/17

Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters is up first on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show.  Gary talks about bear hunting in Michigan and his new whitetail guide service in Missouri.

Then, Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews  joins me with a wrap up of their big Outdoor Weekend and a preview of the October edition of the magazine.

Hour two kicks off with Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr.  Chad is the whitetail specialist for the state and we discuss the outlook for the season, status of CWD and what can be done to improve deer numbers in the UP.

Drew YoungeDyke from mucc wraps up the hour talking about a concept he calls “hunt your hunt”.

We switch topics for our final hour of this week’s show and talk fall fishing with Mark Martin.  Mark says the fall is a great time to catch trophy fish because they’re putting on th feed bag for winter.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave and I talk about a live Facebook event coming up Wednesday the 21st at 8PM.  The event will be at Oscar and Joey’s Roadhouse where one lucky guest will win a new Darton Archery Viper SS crossbow package.

Show Rundown for the Weekend of 7/16

Hunting guide Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters is the kick off guest on this week’s show.  Gary talks about bear hunting in Michigan and what hunters can expect.  By the way, I’ll be hunting with Gary this fall near Curtis in the UP.

Then Chris Keefer of the “Dropped” TV show joins me to talk about the new season of that groundbreaking program.

Hour two features Eric Lafollette of Jays Sporting Goods.  Eric is the manager of the archery department in Jay’s Clare store.  He has great advice on getting ready for the upcoming archery season.

Michigan dnr biologist Ashley Autenrieth wraps up the hour talking about a new grant to improve whitetail habitat in the TB zone.

Captain John King of Halcyon Charters joins me in the third hour of this week’s Outdoor Magazine show.  John talks about the fishing out of Detour and Drummond Island, and the lack of salmon near St. Ignace.

Wild Game Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time we talk about preparation for Dave’s elk hunt and also our plans to do a live Facebook feed from his restaurant on Wednesday the 20th.

Rundown for the Last Weekend in January

We wrap up the month with a variety of topics this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

First, the “Sturgeon General”, Brenda Archambo of Sturgeon for Tomorrow talks about the upcoming Sturgeon spearing season and successful efforts to protect those prehistoric fish during their spawning season.

Then Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters talks about the upcoming Michigan turkey season and looks ahead to the fall bear hunt.

Hour two kicks off with Capt. Doug Deming of the Fish Point Lodge.  Doug says the ice fishing season on Saginaw Bay has been slow because of poor ice conditions.

Then Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about their programs to introduce school kids to wildlife and the outdoors.

Outdoor Writer Richard P Smith is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Richard talks about the number of Michigan bear tags, the mild winter and UP wildlife and what he perceives to be unfair crossbow regulations for Upper Peninsula hunters.

Show Rundown for November 16/17

I kick off this week’s show talking about my recent deer hunt in Michigan UP.  I didn’t get a deer, but had a great hunt anyway with Gary Morgan and East Lake Outfitters.

Next, Gary joins me to talk about his operation and modern day deer hunting in the Upper Peninsula.

The hour wraps up with Tim Hart of the Q1 Buckpole. as Tim describes his modern day online big buck contest.

Hour number two features “Michigan’s Weatherman” Mark Torregrossa.  Mark is a veteran meteorologist with a unique sense of how the weather affects hunters and anglers.  Mark’s website is FarmerWeather.com.

I had Tom Schneider of Heater Body Suit scheduled to wrap up the hour, but he was busy tracking a deer ( a good excuse to miss a radio interview).  Instead, I talked with one of Tom’s buddies in the shop.  We had phone line problems and had to cut that conversation short.  I can tell you after using the Heater Body Suit in some very brutal conditions, it really works.

The third hour features Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor  Shop in Bay City, MI.  Glenn talks about maintaining your deer gun and how to store it for the off season.  We also talk about muzzleloaders and choosing the right gun.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has another tasty venison recipe.

Show Rundown for Mothers Day Weekend

We kick off this Mother’s Day weekend talking with Eileen Duffin of Tight Lines for Troops coming up next week in Manistee.

Then Glenn Duncan of Duncan’s Outdoor Shop in Bay City a recent problem he had with a lending institution regarding his firearm business. We also talk about the continuing ammo shortage.

The hour wraps up with Randy Jorgenson of Woods-n-Waternews. Randy talks about his turkey hunting season and the latest edition of the magazine.

Michigan’s sturgeon spawning run is the first topic of the second hour as I talk with Brenda Archambo of the Black Lake Chapter of Sturgeon for Tomorrow.

Then charter captain Hunter Engel joins me to talk about Great Lakes salmon fishing. Hunter is the son of well known charter captain Dave Engel of the Best Chance Too charter.

The hour wraps up with Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Tony discusses the recent victory of sportsmen over the anti hunting Humane Society of the United States.

Outdoor Magazine contributor Richard P. Smith kicks off our final hour. Richard and I discuss bear hunting in Michigan and he has advice on how to apply for a Michigan bear hunting tag.

Then, Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters talks about his company and what he as to offer Michigan bear and whitetail hunters. Gary says it’s time to book your hunt for this fall.

Rundown for 3/16

The show kicks off this week with the announcement of a new facebook page to honor Michigan’s Outdoor Legends. I’m excited about this project and welcome input on who should be honored with that title.

Then, Scott Rifenbark of Rifenbark Armory joins me to talk about his small Michigan company and the AR style rifles they produce.

Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters is up next. Gary says his guide service is a great option for first time turkey hunters.

The second hour kicks off with captain Mike Orr of Five Orr’s Charters on southern Lake Michigan. That part of the lake usually opens up early and offers trollers their first chance at big water salmon and trout.

Outdoor Magazine contributor Richard P. Smith kicks off the third hour of this week’s show. Richard and I talk about his Camera Moose Hunt project, UP whitetails, wolves and lots more.
