Radio Rundown to Kick Off October

Allan Goetz from the Michigan Buck Pole is my first guest this week.  Allan describes how their “online buck pole” started and talks about their impressive growth.

Then Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation  joins me to talk about another giveaway.  This time it’s a hunting blind from Slayer Blinds.

Speaking of Slayer Outdoor Products, Rob Trowbridge from that Michigan based company  wraps up the hour with details on their products.

Hour two kicks off with Mike Horswill of Jays Sporting Goods.  Mike is an expert meat processor and has great advice on field dressing, butchering and processing your deer.

Amy Trotter from mucc is up next.  Amy talks about their recent Great Lakes Day at the state capitol.  She also has updates on the Lake Erie algae bloom, aquaculture and asian carp.

Michigan’s “Mr. Walleye”,  Mark Martin is featured in hour three this week.  Mark has great advice  about fishing the fall and has a preview of his upcoming Fishing Vacation Schools.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time he has a very nice venison recipe.

Radio Rundown for First Weekend in “Rocktober”.

We kick off the month of October talking with Ted Harpham of Darton Archery.  Ted talks about their new 2017 Maverick and teases us with talk of their other new models to be unveiled in January at the Archery Trade Association show.

Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation wraps up the hour.  Emily has details of their latest promotional give away involving Slayer Blinds from Standish Fabricating.

Hour two kicks off with Master Taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room  Taxidermy Studio in Allendale.  RJ has great advice on taking care of your trophy in the field so you can get the best mount possible

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc is up next.   Drew talks about the upcoming bow season, his plans to bear hunt in the remote western Upper Peninsula and some recent action taken by the Michigan United Conservation Clubs.

We switch gears and talk fishing in the final hour of this week’s show.  Captain Paul Schlafley of Riverside Charters joins me to talk about fall salmon and trout fishing on the big lake and also steelhead fishing on the Manistee River.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time the veteran wild game master has a very nice venison recipe.

Radio Guests for 9/17

Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters is up first on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show.  Gary talks about bear hunting in Michigan and his new whitetail guide service in Missouri.

Then, Tom Campbell from Woods-n-Waternews  joins me with a wrap up of their big Outdoor Weekend and a preview of the October edition of the magazine.

Hour two kicks off with Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr.  Chad is the whitetail specialist for the state and we discuss the outlook for the season, status of CWD and what can be done to improve deer numbers in the UP.

Drew YoungeDyke from mucc wraps up the hour talking about a concept he calls “hunt your hunt”.

We switch topics for our final hour of this week’s show and talk fall fishing with Mark Martin.  Mark says the fall is a great time to catch trophy fish because they’re putting on th feed bag for winter.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave and I talk about a live Facebook event coming up Wednesday the 21st at 8PM.  The event will be at Oscar and Joey’s Roadhouse where one lucky guest will win a new Darton Archery Viper SS crossbow package.

Radio Rundown for September 12/13

This week’s Outdoor Magazine show is filled with great guests and information.

First, outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose (WildFishing.com)  joins me to talk about fall fishing opportunities in northern Michigan.

Tim Dusterwinkle is featured in hour number two.  Tim is the president of the Michigan Bear Hunters Association (mibearhunters.org) He talks about the upcoming bear season and the appeal of running bears with dogs.

Next, the conversation turns to whitetail deer with Chad Stewart of the  Michigan  dnr Chad has an update on the CWD situation and preview of the upcoming season.

Bird hunting is the opening topic of hour number three as I talk with Al Stewart.  Al is the upland game bird specialist for the DNR and an avid bird hunter.  Al talks about fall turkey hunting, as well as grouse and woodcock seasons.

Dixie Dave Minar wraps up this week’s show with a spicy grilled goose breast recipe.

Radio this weekend (10/15-16)

An interesting show this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, I talk with Chad Fortune of Walloon Lake, Michigan. Chad is the guy attacked by a black bear while bowhunting for whitetails in Emmet County. It’s a very detailed an unnerving account of the incident.

Then, Tim Hart of the Q1 Buckpole contest joins me to talk about their big buck contest and the prizes available. Some big southern Michigan animals are already registered.

We wrap up the hour with Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews. Tom talks about the fall hunting season so far, and the November edition of the magazine.

In the second hour Tim Roller of the Ultimate Outfitters guide service and Tim Roller’s Wild Addiction television show joins me. We talk about fall fishing and how water temperature affects the action this time of year. Whitetails are also part of the discussion as Tim shares some advice on how to match wits with a big buck.

The hour wraps up with Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Tony talks about hunter recruitment numbers, as well as several other hunting related topics.

The final hour of this week’s program features veteran outdoor writer and photographer Richard P. Smith. Richard tells me the intense story of a U. P. forester who found himself in the middle of a wolf pack, and how he escaped from those animals.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week Dave has another tasty recipe.
