Guest Rundown for the First Weekend in August

We kick off the new month with some great guests and information this week on the Outdoor Magazine radio show.

First, Dale Borske of the Michigan Chapter of Ducks Unlimited (ducks.org/michigan) talks about the 80th anniversary of that group and what they’re doing for wetlands habitat.

Then Glen Venner of the Lure Lipstick company describes how his product uses pheromones to attract fish.

Hour two kicks off with Capt. Paul Schlafley of Riverside Charters in Manistee.  Paul says the fishing for big king salmon has been surprisingly good this season.

Next, Josh Pawlak from Vanguard Outdoors talks about a contest that company is having to give two kids a whitetail hunt in Michigan’s UP this fall.

Lt. Steve Burton from the Michigan dnr wraps up the hour.  Steve has details on the requirements to be a Conservation Officer.

Fishing is the topic in hour number three as I talk with Mark Romanack from Fishing 411 TV.  Mark describes his recent adventures to Stannard Rock in Lake Superior and a steelhead fishing trip to Lake Erie.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up with a very nice venison meat loaf recipe.

Radio Rundown for Easter Weekend

Ted Harpham of Michigan based Darton Archery is my first guest this week.  Ted talks about bowhunting for turkeys, the growth of bow fishing and Darton’s compounds and crossbows.

Then Tim Dusterwinkle, President of the Michigan Bear Hunters Association (mibearhunters.org), joins me to talk about a video they helped produce to promote bear hunting with dogs.

Hour two kicks off with “Michigan’s Morel Master”, Clayton Edney.  Clayton runs the Michigan Morels Facebook page and has great advice on how to find the tasty springtime treats.

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc wraps up the hour.  Drew announces his plans to leave the Michigan United Conservation Clubs and go to work for the National Wildlife Federation.  He says he’ll be working on many of the same issues….inluding asian carp.

Fishing Hall of Fame Member Mark Martin is featured in hour three.  He talks about a recent fishing trip on the Detroit River and his plans to fish the Keweenaw area for avariety of fish including walleye and trout.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar is up next.  This time Dave has a very nice turkey recipe.

Radio Rundown for December 5th Weekend

We kick off the month of December with more good guests and information this week.

First, Jorden Susewitz of the Extreme Predator Hunt (facebook.com/The-Extreme-Predator-Hunt) talks about predator hunting in Michigan and previews their contest coming up in January.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about his perception of the firearm season and look ahead to their January issue.

It’s beagles and bunnies in hour number two as I talk with veteran rabbit hunter Corky Legue.  Corky is an expert houndsman and has great advice on running beagles for rabbits.

Clay Buchannan of the Michigan dnr is up next talking about the Wildlife Habitat Grant program.  Clay some of the funding has been earmarked for improving deer yards in the Upper Peninsula.

Hour three features outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose of Wildfishing.  Dave talks about fishing here in Michigan as compared to some other states and has a suggestion about where to go this weekend.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time the Chef has a hearty venison recipe.

Radio Rundown for March 14/15

We kick off this weekends Outdoor Magazine radio show talking with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor Shop in Bay City.  Glenn tells of the recent attempt to ban the popular green tip .556 bullets and discusses turkey guns for the upcoming season.

Then Mike Orr of Five Orrs Charters joins me to talk about early season trolling on southern Lake Michigan.  Mike says anglers there are already on open water and getting limit catches of coho.

Next, Michigan dnr biologist Kevin Swanson has an update on the Michigan black bear population.  He says the bears here are doing well but the number of bear tags will still be down for this season.

We’re talking turkey in hour three with Greg Abbas of A-Way Outdoors (AWayHunting.com).  Greg has advice on pre season scouting for gobblers and demonstrates some of his favorite calls.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  As always, Dave has another great recipe.
