Outdoor Magazine Radio Rundown for 9/9

First, Rob Miller talks about using dogs to recover deer.  Rob was one of the first trackers in Michigan and says dogs can find many whitetails that hunters have given up on.  You can learn more on his Facebook page….facebook.com/syprisandsargentdeertracking.

Then, Chad Merrihew of Security Credit Union  has details on their “Outdoor Adventure” card to finance all aspects of your next Outdoor Adventure.

Hour two kicks off with Chad Stearns of Jays Sporting Goods.  Chad recently returned from a dall sheep hunt in the mountains of Alaska.  He tells the story of that hunt, including when he was charged by a sow grizzly.


Then, Holly Vaughn of the Michigan dnr talks about new regulations facing waterfowl hunters this season.

Karl Ieuter of the Ieuter  Insurance Group wraps up the hour with great advice on protecting our expensive hunting and fishing gear.

Tim Roller of Whitetail Journey is featured in our final hour this week.  Tim talks about fall  fishing and chasing trophy whitetails.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up with another great wild game recipe.

Radio Rundown for March 4/5

We kick off the new months with some great guests and interesting topics.

First, Eric Sherwood of Whitetail Select food plot seed joins me.  Eric is an agronomist and hunter who brings an interesting perspective to the food plot business.  He has great advice on starting a plot, where to put it, how big to make it and what seed to use.

Hour two kicks off with outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose of  Wildfishing.com. Dave talks about late winter and early spring fishing opportunities in Northern Michigan.

Then, Drew YoungeDyke of mucc talks about their concern over possible changes in the Michigan commercial fishing laws that would allow those fishermen to keep walleye, salmon and trout.  CWD and asian carp are also topics of discussion.

We wrap up the hour with Kurt Ieuter of the Ieuter Insurance Group.  Kurt says it’s important to work with the right insurance company to protect our outdoor gear and equipment.

Guns and shooting are the topic in hour three of this week’s show as I talk with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor Shop in Bay City.  Glenn talks about the demand for guns today, how to maintain them and what to look for when buying a new gun.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave and I talk about the recent wild game dinner and auction by my church, Trinity Monitor, and what it takes to cook for hundreds of people at an event like that.

Radio Rundown for September 7th.

We kick off the show with Alex Gyllstrom of Michigan based Scent Lok.  That company was the originator of scent control clothing for hunters and Alex has some great tips on how to use, and maintain, their products.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me to promote their big Outdoor Weekend in Imlay City.

The second hour features Ted Harpham of Darton Archery.  Ted talks about how the company got started and takes a look at their new compounds and crossbows of today.

Karl Ieuter of the Ieuter Insurance Group is up next.  Karl has great advice on storing your summer gear and insuring your fall equipment.

“Michigan’s Weatherman” Mark Torregrossa kicks off the final hour of this week’s show.  Mark says we can expect a cooler than normal fall and that trend could continue into winter as well.  You can follow Mark on his website….FarmerWeather.com.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice walleye recipe.

Radio Rundown for Easter Weekend

We kick off the show talking about the successful petition drive to put a Michigan wolf hunt on the November 2014 ballot.

Then Don Kettles of Top Duck Products joins me to talk about Gunzilla. Gunzilla is a a natural based product to clean, lubricate and protect firearms. It’s been proven to save lives overseas in combat and it’s great for protecting hunting guns back here in Michigan.

Chris Goerge of the Ieuter Insurance Group wraps up the hour. Chris has great advice on protecting your fishing gear and equipment from theft and loss.

Springtime steelheading is the subject of the next hour as I talk with Tim Roller of Ultimate Outfitters guide service. Tim says the late spring this year should make for a great season.

Next, the wolf conversation continues with Tony Hansen of MUCC. Tony describes how the Humane Society of the United States bought signatures on the wolf petition and he outlines plans to educate Michigan voters on the truth about wolves.

Derrick Poet of Jay’s Sporting Goods kicks off the final hour of this week’s show. Derrick has some great advice to get ready for the upcoming Michigan spring turkey season.

The show wraps up once again with Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week Dave has another great wild game recipe.

Show Rundown for 9/29

We wrap up the month of September with a fast paced and informational Outdoor Magazine radio show.

First, Lt. Jason Hanes of the Michigan DNR with the story of an Arkansas man convicted of selling live asian carp in Michigan.

Then, Chris Goerge of the Iueter Insurance Company has some great advice on insuring your outdoor toys and equipment.

The hour wraps up with Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews. Tom has an overview of the October edition of their magazine.

Glenn Duncan of Duncan’s Outdoor Shop in Bay City, MI kicks off the second hour. Glenn is a veteran gunsmith and firearms expert. He has some tips on choosing the right gun for a woman or kids.

Then Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs joins me with a reminder about their “75 prizes in 75 days” membership campaign.

The final hour features outdoor writer and whitetail expert Richard P. Smith. Richard says Michigan’s whitetail management is for sale to the the highest bidder and he explains why.

We wrap it all up with Wild Game Chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week the chef has a very nice venison recipe.

Outdoor Magazine Radio (Weekend of 3/26-27)

A busy and fast paced show this weekend on the Outdoor Magazine radio show. First, I talk about my upcoming spring bear hunt in Quebec. I haven’t hunted that province before and I’m excited to give it a try…especially on a springtime hunt.

Than, Glenn Duncan of Duncan’s Outdoor Shop in Bay City Michigan joins me to talk about turkey guns. The master gunsmith and avid shooter has some great advice on what to look for in today’s shotguns.

The hour wraps up with Dawn Szcepanski of the Ieuter Insurace company in Midland, Michigan. Dawn talks about insuring our summertime equipment and the proper coverage for snowmachines and other cold weather gear being put into storage.

Hour number two features Chip Hunnicutt of Crosman Air Guns. Chip tells me about the new generation of air rifles designed for hunting. These high powered guns include the Benjamin Rogue which is designed to shoot a .357 bullet.

Tony Hansen of MUCC finishes the hour from the road as he travels to Nebraska for a spring turkey hunt. Tony brings me up to speed on the status of several key pieces of outdoor related legislation here in Michigan.

The final hour of this week’s show features one of today’s most outrageous outdoorsman. Ted Nugent joins me to talk about hunting related issues today. He also stresses the importance of getting involved in the political process. Nugent has taken some heat for his opinions, but I believe he’s dead on.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps up the program. This time Dave has a hearty venison recipe.

This weekend’s radio show (12/12)

A busy show this week….

First, Steve Francis of The Country Smokehouse in Almont joins me to talk about the deer season from his perspective. Steve is one of Michigan’s biggest venison processors, and he says his season was down considerably.

Then, Melissa Grzegorczyk of the Ieuter Insurance Group talks about insurance concerns for the winter season, especially as it pertains to ice fishing. She’ll tell us if our vehicles are covered if we take them on the ice. The answer might surprise you.

The first hour wraps up as always with our friends from Woods-n-Waternews. This week Tom Campbell joins me.

Hour number two features one of my favorite guests, Tom Lounsbury. I can’t give you a link to his website because it’s not done yet, but I can tell you Tom and I have a great conversation about late season deer hunting, rabbit hunting with beagles and lots more. In fact, I found this conversations with Tom so interesting I offered him the “coveted third segment”. That’s an honor not many guests receive.

We wrap up the show with Ted Harpham of Darton Archery and Chef Dixie Dave Minar. Ted and I discuss the new “quad limb” Darton compound just introduced and we talk at length about making the transition to hunting with a crossbow.

Then, the Chef tells me of his plans to re-open the Old Dixie Inn (under a different name) and the status of his wild game soups. Dave also has a tasty recipe.
