Radio Rundown for New Year’s Weekend

First  Bob Abbot of Dog Tired TV describes his role in the fight to allow centerfire rifles after dark for predator hunting.  He also talks about why hunting coyotes at night can be so productive.

Then Tom Campbell of  Woods-n-Waternews comments on some big outdoor related issues in 2017 and what we an look forward to next year.

We head to the Yoop in hour two as I talk with Tony Demboski, President of the  Upper Peninsula Sportsmens Alliance.  Tony talks about the long term project to save, and enhance, wintertime deer yards.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Katie has details on the new Michigan elk license plate and the Pure Michigan Hunt.

The final hour of this week’s show features Fishing Hall of Fame member Mark Martin.  Mark talks about his early days in the fishing industry and his upcoming ice fishing vacation schools.

We wrap it all up once again with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice venison recipe using a crock pot.

First, Brad Dupuie of Michigan made Angler Qwest boats joins me to talk about their lineup for 2018.  They made some big improvements in existing models and added a couple of new versions for southern anglers.

Then, whitetail expert John Eberhart (deer-john.net) talks about scouting hunting properties and his new consulting business to help Michigan hunters.

Next, Katie Keen from the Michigan dnr reminds us small game season opens September 15th and has details of their GEMS program for grouse hunters.

Hour three features outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith.  Richard talks about bear and deer hunting, as well as his new book on tracking wounded whitetails.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar and another great wild game recipe.

Radio Rundown for this Weekend

First, Tom Simmon of Jays Sporting Goods has great advice on buying a gun safe.  By the way, Tom safes those safes are a great place to store all you family valuables, not just firearms.

Then Chelsea Maupin of Gud Marketing talks about the research they did on the perception of hunters and anglers in Michigan.  The results are surprising.

Hour two features Michigan’s “Whitetail Whisperer”, John Eberhart (DeerJohn.net).  Eberhart explains why most hunters aren’t as successful as they could be.  He also announces a new program to bring his expertise to your hunting property.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  She reminds us that May is the month to apply for bear and elk permits.

Fishing is the topic in hour three as I talk with Lance Valentine of Walleye 101.  Lance has great advice on trolling for open water walleye and getting the most from your fishing electronics.

Radio Rundown for the First Show in April

We kick off the new month with a fast paced show covering many topics this week.

First, Tod Williams of the Bay Port Fish Company joins me to talk about the proposed changes to Michigan’s commercial fishing laws.  Those changes would allow commercial fishermen to keep an incidental catch of walleye and lake trout.

Then, charter captain Jeff Godi of The Michigan Experience announces  a Saginaw Bay walleye fishing trip he’s giving away this summer.

Emily Mallory of the Forward Corporation wraps up the hour and explains how to win that fishing trip by stopping by your local Forward convenience store.

Hour two kicks off with Kevin Charron of Jays Sporting Goods.  Kevin talks about the importance of patterning your shotgun for turkey season and has some great advice on choosing the right loads and choke tubes.

Drew YoungeDyke from mucc is up next.  This week Drew explains the importance of continued funding for CWD research.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is my last guest of the hour.  Katie reminds us it’s time  for new hunting and fishing licenses.

Fishing is the topic in hour three of this week’s Outdoor Magazine show as I talk with Brad Smyth of Detroit Outdoor Adventures (iFishDetroit.com).  Brad says the springtime fishing opportunities in SE Michigan are world class.

We kick off this week’s show talking about the extended coyote hunting season in Michigan.   Michigan dnr biologist Adam Bump has the details.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins the show to talk about the Michigan turkey season so far.

Hour two kicks off with outdoor writer and veteran angler Dave Mull of Great Lakes Angler Magazine (GLAngler.com).  Dave talks about the evolution of the big water fishery and also the appeal of fishing from a kayak.

Rundown for the Last Weekend in January

We wrap up the month with a variety of topics this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

First, the “Sturgeon General”, Brenda Archambo of Sturgeon for Tomorrow talks about the upcoming Sturgeon spearing season and successful efforts to protect those prehistoric fish during their spawning season.

Then Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters talks about the upcoming Michigan turkey season and looks ahead to the fall bear hunt.

Hour two kicks off with Capt. Doug Deming of the Fish Point Lodge.  Doug says the ice fishing season on Saginaw Bay has been slow because of poor ice conditions.

Then Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about their programs to introduce school kids to wildlife and the outdoors.

Outdoor Writer Richard P Smith is featured in the final hour of this week’s show.  Richard talks about the number of Michigan bear tags, the mild winter and UP wildlife and what he perceives to be unfair crossbow regulations for Upper Peninsula hunters.

Show Rundown for 7/19

It’s a fast paced show this week filled with great guests and information.

First, meteorologist Mark Torregrossa (mlive.com)  joins me.  Mark and I recently spent a day walleye fishing on Saginaw Bay but the main topic of discussion is about the weather he says we can expect this fall and winter.

Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour with a look at their August edition.

Master taxidermist RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room inside Jays Sporting Goods kicks off hour number two.  RJ has great advice on choosing a taxidermist.  He also announces a new Trophy Room studio will open in Allendale, near Grand Rapids this September.  The veteran taxidermist also says he’ll give away a whitetail shoulder mount when this Outdoor Magazine Facebook page reaches 29,000 likes.  Thanks for your generosity RJ.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Katie talks about a very cool program to teach students about Michigan’s bear population.

In the final hour of this week’s show I talk with outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose (WildFishing.com).  Dave is at the big ICAST show in Orlando and he tells us about the new products he’s seen there.
