Radio Rundown for Mother’s Day Weekend

First RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio in Allendale joins me to talk about preserving your hunting and fishing memories.

Then, Tom Campbell from the Woods-n-Waternews magazine has a look at their latest edition.

Hour two kicks off with Michigan dnr wildlife biologist Chad Stewart.  Chad talks about whitetail fawns and why people should never pick them up.  He also describes the latest on CWD in Michigan and proposed changes to the state’s deer hunting regulations.

Then, Shaun McKeon of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) describes their new “On the Ground Jr.” program.

Bass fishing is the topic in hour 3 as I talk with fishing guide Gerry Gostenik of Great Lakes Bass Fishing.  Gerry says Michigan is one of the top states in the country for trophy smallmouth with Lake St. Clair leading the way.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps this week’s show up.  This time he has a very interesting woodchuck recipe.

Rundown for the Weekend of 1/23-24

Some unusual topics this week on the Outdoor Magazine Radio Show.

Then Drew YoungeDyke from mucc has details on the 40th anniversary of the Michigan Trust Fund.

Karl Ieuter of the Ieuter Group wraps up the hour talking about insurance issues while taking a vehicle or atv on the ice.

Wild boar hunting in Michigan is the opening subject in the final hour of this weeks show as I talk with veteran hunter Nick Ostroski.  Nick and his crew have probably taken more wild hogs in Michigan than anybody else.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a nice rabbit recipe.

Rundown for Last Weekend in May

We wrap up the month with more great guests and information.

First, Michigan dnr biologist Chad Stewart has the latest on the discovery of CWD in the Michigan deer herd.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has reaction to the news of Chronic Wasting Disease and a look at the current edition of their magazine.

Musky fishing is the topic in hour number two as I talk with charter captain Don Miller of Millers Sportfishing.  Don trolls Lake St. Clair for the giant fish and he says this will be another good season.

Next, filmmaker Kristin Ojaniemi joins me to talk about her efforts to chronicle some of Michigan’s UP deer camps and how her video might save those pieces of Michigan history. You can see some of her work at UPaRiver.net.

Old friend Tom Lounsbury joins me in the third hour.  As usual Tom and I discuss several outdoor topics and items….including turkeys, bear and guns.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice fish recipe he say you can use for salmon or trout.

Show Rundown for 1/31-2/1

We wrap up January and kick off the new month with more good guests this week.

First, Brad Dupuie of Apex Marine joins me to talk about their new Angler Qwest big water trolling tritoons.  That boat was a big success with anglers last summer and the company has made some interesting changes for 2015.

Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about the latest edition of that magazine and what’s coming up next month.

Hour two features Paul Cianciolo of Predator Hunter Outdoors.  Paul has some innovative, high intensity LED lights for predator hunting after dark.

Then Katie McGlashen of the Michigan dnr joins me to talks about the Waterloo Recreation area and the Eddy Discovery Center (Michigan.gov/EddyCenter).

Ice fishing on Lake St. Clair is the subject in our final hour as I talk with veteran outdoorsman Jim Felgenauer.  Jim describes spearing for perch and the action on LSC in general.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  Dave doesn’t have a recipe this week, instead we talk about the preparation involved in cooking a wild game dinner for several hundred people.

Rundown for Father’s Day Weekend

The show kicks off with a heartfelt thank you to all Dads on this Father’s Day Weekend.

Then, northern Michigan resident Frank Candela tells the story of a close encounter with a black bear sow and cub.

Plus, Adam Bump of the Michigan dnr talks about bears in Michigan and what people can do to minimize unwanted interaction with them.

John Kirby of Becks Trailer Store in St. Johns, MI wraps up the hour.  Beck’s is the state’s largest trailer outlet with fourteen hundred in stock.

The second hour features Lake St. Clair musky charter captain Don Miller of Millers Sportfishing.  Don says LSC is the best musky fishery in the country and tells why anglers should come and fish with him.

Traditional archery is the topic in the final hour of this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show as I talk with Dave Balowski of St Joe River Bows.  Dave explains the appeal of shooting a recurve or longbow and stresses the importance of finding one that fits the archer.

We wrap it all up with chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week he has an unusual sheephead recipe.
