Radio Rundown for This Weekend (7/8)

First, Michigan dnr biologist Kevin Swanson joins me to talk about the cougar near Lansing.  Kevin says the DNR is hoping to hear from more Clinton County residents who have seen the animal.  You can report those sightings here mi.gov/eyesinthefield.

Screen Shot 2017-07-06 at 8.17.37 AMThen Scott Szfranski of Linwood Beach Marina on Saginaw Bay checks in with a walleye fishing report.

Hour two kicks off with Shawn Nowicki from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (fws.gov).  She talks about the continuing program to battle lampreys in the Great Lakes.  Here’s the schedule for treating Michigan Rivers

mucc Executive Director Dan Eichinger wraps up the hour.  Dan has details of their recent convention, including talk of Michigan dove and sandhill crane hunts.  He also expresses concern over the recent discovery of asian carp very near Lake Michigan.

In the final hour of this week’s show, I talk with retired Coast Guardsman Joe Marion.  Joe spent his entire lifetime on the water and now works as a charter captain out of Lundington on Rod Master Fishing charters.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This week Dave has another nice fish recipe.

I hope you like the show.

Radio Rundown for This Week’s Show (7/21)

I kick off the show talking once again about Asian carp. I’m in the minority, but I’m not convinced the sky is falling and I ask the question why this issue has dragged out so long with no action.

Then Eric Sherwood of Whitetail Select joins me to talk about food plots and how the hot, dry summer has affected them.

Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour. Tom has a preview of their next edition, including the first hand story of a family stranded on Saginaw Bay during a recent fishing trip.

Hour two features veteran angler Jim Felgenauer of the St. Clair Chapter of Sturgeon for Tomorrow. Jim is an avid sturgeon angler and he has great advice on fishing for the prehistoric creatures.

Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs is up next. This week Tony has some early information on an issue regarding shooting ranges that could prove to be a big threat to shooting in Michigan.

The final hour kicks off with fishing guide Mike Schultz of Schultz Outfitters. Mike is a flyfisherman who concentrates on southeast Michigan rivers. Mike says it’s been a tough summer because many streams and rivers are very low from the lack of rain.

Next I talk about a picture released by the Michigan Wildlife Conservancy of a cougar they say is from the Upper Peninsula.

It’s interesting to note, that picture attracted more attention on the Outdoor Magazine Facebook page than any other previous post.

We wrap it all up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time the chef has a very nice lake trout recipe.

This is a very busy, and interesting show…I hope you like it.
