Radio Rundown for the First Weekend in November

We kick off the new month with a wide range of topics this week.

First. Tom Beecher of Vanguard Outdoors (VanguardWorld.us) has details of a big discount program with Jays Sporting Goods.  You can get twenty percent off all Vanguard products at either Jay’s store if you use my name. “Avery”, at checkout.

Then Suzanne Miller-Allen from Blue Cross Blue Shield (bcbsm.com) talks about their “Novembeard” program.  Hunters can get a free health screening at Jay’s stores on November 8th from 9-2.  DNR personnel will also be there to answer questions.

Trophy musky fishing is the topic in the second hour as I talk with retired DNR fisheries tech and avid angler Don Barnard.  Don says this is the best time of year to target big muskies and he has great advice on finding those fish.

Michigan dnr veterinarian Dr. Kelly Straka is up next.  Kelly has the latest on CWD in Michigan.

In hour three we talk about preserving your outdoor memories with master taxidermist RJ Meyer of The Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio in Allendale.  RJ says a deer doesn’t have to be a record book animal to be worthy of putting on the wall.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  First, he has advice on proper field preparation, then Dave has a very nice barbecue venison rib recipe.

I hope you like the show.

Rundown for Last Weekend in May

We wrap up the month with more great guests and information.

First, Michigan dnr biologist Chad Stewart has the latest on the discovery of CWD in the Michigan deer herd.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews has reaction to the news of Chronic Wasting Disease and a look at the current edition of their magazine.

Musky fishing is the topic in hour number two as I talk with charter captain Don Miller of Millers Sportfishing.  Don trolls Lake St. Clair for the giant fish and he says this will be another good season.

Next, filmmaker Kristin Ojaniemi joins me to talk about her efforts to chronicle some of Michigan’s UP deer camps and how her video might save those pieces of Michigan history. You can see some of her work at UPaRiver.net.

Old friend Tom Lounsbury joins me in the third hour.  As usual Tom and I discuss several outdoor topics and items….including turkeys, bear and guns.

We wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This week Dave has a very nice fish recipe he say you can use for salmon or trout.

Another show filled with great guests and information.  I hope you like it.
