Radio Rundown for Easter Weekend

Ted Harpham of Michigan based Darton Archery is my first guest this week.  Ted talks about bowhunting for turkeys, the growth of bow fishing and Darton’s compounds and crossbows.

Then Tim Dusterwinkle, President of the Michigan Bear Hunters Association (mibearhunters.org), joins me to talk about a video they helped produce to promote bear hunting with dogs.

Hour two kicks off with “Michigan’s Morel Master”, Clayton Edney.  Clayton runs the Michigan Morels Facebook page and has great advice on how to find the tasty springtime treats.

Drew YoungeDyke of mucc wraps up the hour.  Drew announces his plans to leave the Michigan United Conservation Clubs and go to work for the National Wildlife Federation.  He says he’ll be working on many of the same issues….inluding asian carp.

Fishing Hall of Fame Member Mark Martin is featured in hour three.  He talks about a recent fishing trip on the Detroit River and his plans to fish the Keweenaw area for avariety of fish including walleye and trout.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar is up next.  This time Dave has a very nice turkey recipe.

Show Rundown for Easter Weekend

This week’s show kicks off with Carol Rose of the Michigan Wildlife Council.   Carol talks about the “Here.  For Generations” campaign to educate Michigan’s non hunters and anglers.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me.  Tom talks about the early days of that magazine and why they’ve been so successful for more than thirty years.

Morel mushrooms are the opening topic of discussion in hour number two.  Clayton Edney, a guy I call “Michigan’s Morel Master”,  discusses the early start to this year’s mushroom season and has great advice on finding the tasty fungus.  You can track the season on Clayton’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/michiganmorels).

Pure Michigan Hunt winner Mike Scherzer is up next.  Mike talks about the gear he won and plans for his upcoming hunts.

Derrick Poet is the featured guest in hour number three.  Derrick is a hard core turkey hunter who loves to chase longbeards with a bow.  Derrick talks about blinds, broadheads, decoy set up and more.  He also discusses his Six 11 Custom Bowstring business  (facebook.com/six11archery).

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice rabbit recipe (in honor of the easter bunny).

Radio Rundown for First Weekend in May

First, Eric Sherwood of the  Michigan based Whitetail Select food plot company joins me.  Eric says this is the time to put in food plots across much of the state and he has some great advice on how to get started.

Then Holly Vaughn of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about a series of grants awarded to conservation groups to improve hunting and fishing habitat.

Radio Rundown for First Weekend in May

It’s a broad based show coming up this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, “Michigan’s Morel Master” Clayton Edney joins me to talk about mushrooming. Clayton says the tasty fungus is popping up across the state.

Then Laura Scharich of the Michigan Crossbow Federation talks about a fundraising 3D shoot coming up in a couple of weeks. That shoot is open to all archers, not just crossbow shooters.

Hour number two features Steve Winters of the Michigan Bowfishing Association. Steve has great advice to get started in the sport that used to be called “carp shooting”.

Tony Hansen of MUCC finishes out the hour with an update on the “Scientific Wildlife Management Package” recently approved by the state House.

Springtime fishing for bluegills and other panfish is the subject of our final hour as I talk with Dave Rose of Wildfishing. Dave is a fishing guide and outdoor writer who has some great advice on targeting those popular game fish.

We wrap it up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This week Dave has a popular wild turkey recipe.
