Radio Rundown for Weekend of January 2oth

Ice fishing is the opening topic of discussion this week as I talk with Captain Jeff Godi The Michigan Experience.  Jeff is a Saginaw Bay charter captain who runs ice fishing trips in the winter and he has some great advice on targeting big walleye.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews talks about the recent Ultimate Fishing Show in Novi and takes a look at the February edition of their popular magazine.

Hour two features six time Michigan turkey calling champ and former turkey guide Greg Abbas (AWayHunting.com).  Greg looks forward to the springtime turkey season and also talks about his outdoor invention consulting business.

Ed Roy of the Michigan Wildlife Council (HereForMiOutdoors.org) discusses their “Here for Generations” campaign and the impact it’s having in southern Michigan.

Fishing is the opening topic in the final hour of this week’s show as Dave Rose joins me.  Dave has great advice on hot bites in northern Michigan.  You can learn more at his website WildFishing.com.

As always, we wrap it up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice squirrel recipe.

Radio Rundown for New Year’s Weekend

First  Bob Abbot of Dog Tired TV describes his role in the fight to allow centerfire rifles after dark for predator hunting.  He also talks about why hunting coyotes at night can be so productive.

Then Tom Campbell of  Woods-n-Waternews comments on some big outdoor related issues in 2017 and what we an look forward to next year.

We head to the Yoop in hour two as I talk with Tony Demboski, President of the  Upper Peninsula Sportsmens Alliance.  Tony talks about the long term project to save, and enhance, wintertime deer yards.

Katie Keen of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Katie has details on the new Michigan elk license plate and the Pure Michigan Hunt.

The final hour of this week’s show features Fishing Hall of Fame member Mark Martin.  Mark talks about his early days in the fishing industry and his upcoming ice fishing vacation schools.

We wrap it all up once again with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a very nice venison recipe using a crock pot.

Radio Rundown for March 14/15

We kick off this weekends Outdoor Magazine radio show talking with Glenn Duncan of Duncans Outdoor Shop in Bay City.  Glenn tells of the recent attempt to ban the popular green tip .556 bullets and discusses turkey guns for the upcoming season.

Then Mike Orr of Five Orrs Charters joins me to talk about early season trolling on southern Lake Michigan.  Mike says anglers there are already on open water and getting limit catches of coho.

Next, Michigan dnr biologist Kevin Swanson has an update on the Michigan black bear population.  He says the bears here are doing well but the number of bear tags will still be down for this season.

We’re talking turkey in hour three with Greg Abbas of A-Way Outdoors (AWayHunting.com).  Greg has advice on pre season scouting for gobblers and demonstrates some of his favorite calls.

Radio Rundown for January 12th.

There’s another busy show coming up this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, I talk about some of the things I saw at the Archery Trade Association (ATA) show in Louisville. There were some interesting products unveiled this year.

Then, Derrick Poet of Jay’s Sporting Goods joins me with his thoughts on that show from a retailer’s perspective.

Next, Gary Morgan of East Lake Outfitters talks about his company and how they offer inexpensive Michigan hunting and fishing trips.

The hour wraps up with Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews with a preview of their next edition.

Hour two features Al Stewart of the Michigan DNR. Al is a veteran wildlife biologist and avid turkey hunter. We talk about the history of turkeys in Michigan and how to apply for a springtime turkey hunting tag.

I wrap up the hour talking about the war on guns and their owners. I also have a couple suggestions on what gun owners can do to protect our second amendment right.

In the final hour “Sturgeon General” Brenda Archambo of Sturgeon for Tomorrow joins me to talk about that prehistoric fish and we look ahead to the sturgeon spearing season in February.

The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar. Dave reminds us of his Helping Hands wild game dinner coming up in a couple of weeks and he also has a nice whitefish recipe.
