Rundown For The Weekend of 10/21

First, Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr has an update on CWD in Michigan, including the latest case in Montcalm County.

Then Jim Hammill from the Michigan Wildlife Council (HereforMiOutdoors.org) joins me to talk about that group and their “Here For Generations”  campaign.

Hour two features professional angler Lance Valentine of  Walleye 101.  Lance is getting ready to head down to Lake Erie to chase big walleye.   He has advice on trolling big water in the late season.

DNR biologist and avid upland bird hunter Al Stewart is up next.  Al has details of an upcoming woodcock symposium.

Pheasant hunting is the topic in the final hour of this week’s show as I talk with Tom Lounsbury.  Tom hasn’t missed an opening day of the Michigan pheasant season in six decades.  He says the birds have changed over the years and has advice on how to hunt them today.

We wrap it all up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar.  As always, Dave has a recipe that sounds great.

Radio Rundown for the Weekend of 9/23

First, wildlife biologist Chad Stewart of the Michigan dnr joins me with a preview of what to expect from the upcoming deer season.  He also talks about the biological and social impact of the youth hunt and has an update on CWD and TB in the Michigan deer herd.

Hour two kicks off with Conservation Officer Lt. Jeremy Payne.  Jeremy says they’re looking for more officers and describes what it takes to be a modern day Game Warden.  He also has some advice on staying legal in the field this fall.

Paul Yauk is up next.  Paul has details on the Michigan trail system and the upcoming national trails week program.  You can learn more about the trail system at Michigan.gov/trailsweek.

We wrap up the hour talking about pheasant hunting in Michigan.  Ken Dalton is on a crusade to get the DNR to release pheasants on state land and the movement is getting some support.  You can follow the project at mphi.info.

Matt Pedigo is the featured guest in hour number three this week.  First, Matt talks about the Michigan Wildlife Council and their “Here for Generations” campaign (HereforMiOutdoors.org).  Then, Matt puts on his Michigan bear hunters hat to discuss the state’s bear population and the number of tags issued by the DNR.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time Dave has a very nice squirrel recipe.

Rundown for This Week’s Radio Show

We kick off the month of November talking  hunting this week on the Outdoor Magazine radio show.

First, Nick Andrews of Scent Lok joins me to talk about that company’s products and how they’ve evolved over the years.

Then Bryan Lowe of the Michigan Buck Pole (MiBuckPole.com) has some great stories about the deer photos posted to their website.

Veteran hunter Tom Lounsbury is the first guest of hour two.  Tom says his pheasant hunting season is going very well but his deer season has been slow so far.

Dave VerBurg wraps up the hour talking about his new Michigan based company called Deer On A String.

The “Whitetail Whisperer”, John Eberhart (DeerJohn.net) is featured in hour three.  John tells the story of his recent mid michigan buck and talks about the challenges of deer hunting in Michigan.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has a great pheasant recipe.
