Radio Rundown for Mother’s Day Weekend

First RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio in Allendale joins me to talk about preserving your hunting and fishing memories.

Then, Tom Campbell from the Woods-n-Waternews magazine has a look at their latest edition.

Hour two kicks off with Michigan dnr wildlife biologist Chad Stewart.  Chad talks about whitetail fawns and why people should never pick them up.  He also describes the latest on CWD in Michigan and proposed changes to the state’s deer hunting regulations.

Then, Shaun McKeon of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) describes their new “On the Ground Jr.” program.

Bass fishing is the topic in hour 3 as I talk with fishing guide Gerry Gostenik of Great Lakes Bass Fishing.  Gerry says Michigan is one of the top states in the country for trophy smallmouth with Lake St. Clair leading the way.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps this week’s show up.  This time he has a very interesting woodchuck recipe.

Rundown for April 8/9

We kick off this weekend’s Outdoor Magazine Radio show talking turkey with Greg Abbas of A-way Outdoors.  Greg is a veteran turkey guide and turkey calling champion…and a wealth of knowledge and information.

Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews is up next.  We talk about the history of their magazine and look forward to turkey season.

Hour two features Dan Jordan of Team Anglerfish.  We talk about early season fishing for coho in southern Lake Michigan and trolling shallow water for springtime browns.  Dan also describes his experience running an Angler Qwest on Lake Michigan.

Lt. Jennifer Wolf of the Michigan dnr wraps up the hour.  She says the state’s RAP (Report All Poaching) line can now accept text messages.  That number is 800 292-7800.

Veteran outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith is my guest in hour three.  We talk about Michigan bear and moose numbers…and mandatory antler point restrictions.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up once again.  This time Dave has a very nice turkey recipe.

Rundown for March 11/12

Chris Hamm of Wisconsin based HHA Sports is my first guest this week.  HHA is the leader in adjustable, single pin archery sight technology.  Chris talks about the history of their family owned company, the products they make and our new HHA Sports Podcast.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me with details of their upcoming April edition.

Hour two starts out with Tom Goniea of the Michigan dnr.   Tom is the senior fisheries biologist for the department and the guy who overseas commercial fishing operations in the state.  He has some interesting comments about proposed changes in the commercial fishing regulations that could allow them to keep walleye and lake trout.

Then, Dupuie of Angler Qwest boats joins me.  Brad says demand for the big water trolling tritoon is strong and promotes their appearance at the big Ultimate Sport Show (showspan.com/USG/) coming up in Grand Rapids in a couple weeks.

Hannah Schauer of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Hannah talks about the growing number of coyote complaints from southern Michigan residents.

Fishing is the topic of discussion in hour number three of this week’s Outdoor Magazine show as I talk with Mark Romanack of Fishing 411 TV.  Mark is an expert angler, fishing educator and TV show host with lots of great information.

We wrap it all up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar.  This time Dave has an interesting muskrat recipe.

Show Rundown For This Weekend (7/9)

We start out this week’s show talking about Michigan’s whitetail herd with researcher Sonje Christensen.  She’s involved in a five year study to determine the impact of the EHD outbreak in 2012.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me with a preview of their July edition and an update on their upcoming Outdoor Weekend.

The whitetail theme continues in our second hour as I talk with Michigan dnr biologist Chad Stewart.  Chad describes the expansion of the CWD zone and concerns that EHD might be a problem again this summer.

mucc Deputy Director Amy Trotter is up next.  Amy talks about the role of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs and how hunters and anglers need to be more involved in the political process.

Outdoor writer Steve Griffin is my featured guest in the final hour of this week’s Outdoor Magazine show.  Steve talks about our recent walleye fishing trip on Saginaw Bay and takes a look at how hunting and fishing have changed in Michigan.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  First, Dave has the good news of his success in the Michigan elk drawing.  He also has a very nice grilled fish recipe.

Show Rundown for Easter Weekend

This week’s show kicks off with Carol Rose of the Michigan Wildlife Council.   Carol talks about the “Here.  For Generations” campaign to educate Michigan’s non hunters and anglers.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me.  Tom talks about the early days of that magazine and why they’ve been so successful for more than thirty years.

Morel mushrooms are the opening topic of discussion in hour number two.  Clayton Edney, a guy I call “Michigan’s Morel Master”,  discusses the early start to this year’s mushroom season and has great advice on finding the tasty fungus.  You can track the season on Clayton’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/michiganmorels).

Pure Michigan Hunt winner Mike Scherzer is up next.  Mike talks about the gear he won and plans for his upcoming hunts.

Radio Rundown for this Weekend

First, Sgt. Ron Kimmerly of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about the role of our state’s Conservation Officers and how it’s changed over the years.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews  previews their July edition…including a story  we did on running spoons for walleye aboard the Michigan made Angler Qwest boat (ApexMarine).

We kick off the second hour talking about catfish in the Grand River with Dan Lipski of RiverKat Professional Guide Service.  Dan has great advice for catching big channel cats and flatheads in Michigan rivers.

Drew YoungeDyke of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs (mucc.org) is up next.  Drew has an update on avian flu and cwd in Michigan.

Northern Michigan fishing is the topic in hour number three as I talk with outdoor writer and fishing guide Dave Rose of Wild Fishing.  Dave has advice on catching more fish, but he also stresses the importance of enjoying your day on the water…regardless of the number of fish.

Rundown for last weekend in February

We wrap up the month with a broad based Outdoor Magazine radio show this week.

First, Brian Wright of Williams Gun Sight in Lapeer joins me to talk about that family owned company.  Williams makes traditional and fiber optics sights for long guns and handguns.  They’re based in Michigan but they have customers around the world.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me.  Tom and I discuss the new Michigan hunting and fishing license package that goes into effect March 1st.

Hour number two features AuSable River steelhead guide Kelly Neumann.  Kelly say that famous Michigan trout river is enjoying a strong comeback.  You can see lots of pictures from the AuSable on Kelly’s website MichiganStreamside.com.

Next, Lt. Creig Grey of the Michigan dnr joins me to talk about the new recruit class of conservation officers.  This is the biggest group of game wardens recruits in nearly fifty years.

Show Rundown for May 18/19

Another fast paced show coming up this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, I talk with Sgt. Tom Wanless of the Michigan DNR about his Michigan Outdoor Recreational Safety Weekend. That program is designed so kids can get their hunter safety certificate, boating safety, ORV safety and snowmobile safety certificates in one fell swoop.

Then Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews joins me to tell the story of his successful Michigan turkey season.

Hour two features Adam Bump of the Michigan DNR with details on the Michigan wolf season scheduled for November of this year. He also talks about the Michigan bear population.

MUCC’s Executive Director Erin McDonough wraps up the hour with some insight into what to expect next from the anti hunting group, Humane Society of the United States.

Boating safety is the topic during hour number three as I talk with retired coastguardsman Joe Marion. Joe has great, common sense advice on how to stay safe on the water.
