Radio Rundown for the Weekend of Feb 18/19

Michigan bears are the opening topic of discussion this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio. Michigan dnr wildlife biologist Kevin Swanson says the population is up slightly in the UP and dramatically in the northern Lower Peninsula.  As a result, hunters are likely to see more bear permits issued.

Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa wraps up the hour talking about the mild weather this winter.  He says that trend is likely to continue for a while.

Dale Hendershot of the Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Association (mtpca.com) is up next.  Fur prices are up slightly but Dale says most trappers don’t do it for the money.

Next, I talk with Drew YoungeDyke from mucc.  Drew talks about the upcoming edition of their Michigan Out of Doors Magazine and we discuss the new Michigan Out of Doors Podcast.

Randy Stec from the Michigan Wildlife Council (HereforMIOutdoors) is the final guest of the hour.  Randy updates us on the status of that campaign to educate Michigan’s non hunters and anglers.

Springtime steelheading is the opening topic of discussion of the final hour of this week’s show as I talk with Tim Roller of Whitetail Journey TV.  Tim was a fishing guide on West Michigan rivers for many years and he describes how to use water temp, flow and color to catch fish.

Wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up.  This time it’s possum.

I hope you like the show.
