Radio Rundown for 10/14

First, Brad Dupuie of Michigan made Angler Qwest boats joins me to talk about their lineup for 2018.  They made some big improvements in existing models and added a couple of new versions for southern anglers.

Then, whitetail expert John Eberhart (deer-john.net) talks about scouting hunting properties and his new consulting business to help Michigan hunters.

Next, Katie Keen from the Michigan dnr reminds us small game season opens September 15th and has details of their GEMS program for grouse hunters.

Hour three features outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith.  Richard talks about bear and deer hunting, as well as his new book on tracking wounded whitetails.

Rundown for April 8/9

We kick off this weekend’s Outdoor Magazine Radio show talking turkey with Greg Abbas of A-way Outdoors.  Greg is a veteran turkey guide and turkey calling champion…and a wealth of knowledge and information.

Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews is up next.  We talk about the history of their magazine and look forward to turkey season.

Hour two features Dan Jordan of Team Anglerfish.  We talk about early season fishing for coho in southern Lake Michigan and trolling shallow water for springtime browns.  Dan also describes his experience running an Angler Qwest on Lake Michigan.

Lt. Jennifer Wolf of the Michigan dnr wraps up the hour.  She says the state’s RAP (Report All Poaching) line can now accept text messages.  That number is 800 292-7800.

Veteran outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith is my guest in hour three.  We talk about Michigan bear and moose numbers…and mandatory antler point restrictions.

Show Rundown for the end of January

We wrap up the month talking about a wide variety of topics this week.

First, Michigan dnr fisheries biologist Jim Baker talks about the Saginaw Bay walleye fishery and the role ciscos/herring could play in the future.

Then “Sturgeon General” Brenda Archambo of Sturgeon for Tomorrow joins me with details on the upcoming Sturgeon Shivaree on Black Lake.

Hour two kicks off with outdoor writer Richard P Smith.  Richard says bear predation on UP whitetails is a bigger problem than most people realize.  He also talks about the effective of mandatory antler point restrictions.

Adam Bump from the DNR  is up next.  Adam reminds us that squirrel and rabbit seasons are still open.  He says with poor ice conditions across the southern part of the state, small game hunting is a good option.

Professional angler and fishing educator Lance Valentine of Walleye 101 is featured in hour three.  Lance talks about chasing trophy wintertime walleye on Lake Erie and looks ahead to the springtime fishery on the Detroit River.

Hour two kicks off with Paul Schafley of Riverside Charters in Manistee.  Paul talks about the fishing on Lake Michigan so far this summer and the lack of salmon on this side of the lake.

Maia Turek of the Michigan dnr is up next.  Maia talks about the Recreation Passport (state park sticker) program.

Show Rundown for December 12th Weekend

This week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show kicks off with Dr. Ken Merckel.  Ken is the president of the Michigan Steelhead and Salmon Fishermen’s Association (MichiganSteelheaders.org).  Ken talks about problems with the proposed aquaculture projects and the status of the Great Lakes fishery in general.

Then Bryan Lowe of the Michigan Buck Pole (MiBuckPole.com) joins me to talk about his group and their plans to expand beyond whitetails.

Trapping is the topic of discussion in hour number two as I talk with Dale Hendershot of the Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Association (mtpca.com).  Dale talks about the biological importance of trapping and rebukes some common myths about it.

In hour three we turn our attention to bears and whitetails with outdoor writer and wildlife expert Richard P Smith.  Richard reports on the recent bear management meetings and describes his experience with bears and deer during the firearm season.
