I suppose it had to happen eventually. In looking back a few years ago the same thing happened to my Dad.
My son James just bought his own boat.
The move was no surprise. James had been talking about it and looking at boats for the past couple of years, but when this one came along he couldn’t resist.
It’s a great boat and it came loaded with lots of gear. I’m sure James will be very happy with it.
I’m happy for him too, but I have to admit there’s just a little part of me sad to lose my fishing partner. Since James was a kid he’s tagged along in my boat. These days I usually just drive and get out of the way while he sets lines.
That’s going to change now because James will be fishing in a different boat…..his boat.
It’s understandable a guy wants his own boat to fish when he wants, where he wants and how he wants. I did the same thing twenty five years ago.
I guess it’s just part of the natural evolution of a fisherman.

Congratulations to James and my condolences to you. You are right though, it is just part of the evolution process. Look at the bright side though. The next phase will have you both fishing together in the same boat again. Only it will be when you get too old to run your own boat. This time it will be in his boat, when he wants, where he wants, and how he wants. haha
That’s funny…and very true.
Thanks for sharing Shawn.

Now we might have a little more versitility. The Starcraft is trailerable but this one will be a little easier to take different places. And one of the first purchases Im going to make is a bow mount so we can hopefully fish the river a little bit. You know you will always be asked to go. And remeber your boat is already in the water so those quick last minutes trips will more than likely still be in the Islander.
