I’ve been hearing stories about them for a while now, but I’ve never seen a wild pig in Michigan. In fact, until a couple of days ago, I’d never even talked to anyone who had.

But then I got an email from a guy named Tom Keenan…and he attached a few pictures of pigs captured on a scouting camera.

Tom owns land in Michigan’s Ogemaw County. Apparently that’s a hotspot for pigs because Tom and his family members have shot thirteen of them in the past couple of years.

The Michigan DNR encourages hunters to shoot every feral pig they see because the animals can be very hard on habitat and native wildlife.

You can hear more about what it’s like to hunt pigs in Michigan on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show as I talk with Tom and his Dad Roger about their experiences.

I know wild pigs are bad for Michigan and I hope they never get out of control. I do have to admit though, I’d love the chance to get a shot at one sometime.
