This week’s show kicks off with my thoughts on some threats to hunting and fishing in Michigan, including the lawsuit by a rich lawyer to ban hunting and snowmobiling in the Huron/Manistee National Forest. The is no longer a theoretical battle fought in some far off courtroom…this is a real threat that needs to be taken seriously.

Next, another discussion about treestand safety. I know, you’re sick of hearing about it, but this time I’m joined by a Michigan guy who broke his pelvis in a fall just after Christmas. Bob Gwizdz is an avid hunter, well known outdoor writer and spokesman for the DNR. Gwizdz tells how it happened and what we can learn from his accident.

Next, a young guy by the name of Calvin Beeke talks about his Michigan Whitetail Pursuit group and their new DVD about hunting for Michigan deer. Calvin has a refreshing perspective on bringing the sport of “tv hunting” back to reality instead of the big names and monster bucks that have taken over the airwaves.

The second hour features my friend Pete Jones of Superior Bear Outfitters in White River Ontario. Pete is now offering wolf hunts as well, and his succes rate so far for two seasons is one hundred percent.

Successful Ontario wolf hunter

I’ll be heading up there in a couple of weeks to hunt with a crossbow. We’ll see if I can put a big male on the ground.

Tony Hansen of MUCC helps wrap up the hour. Tony always has great insight into outdoor related issues and news from Lansing.

Popular guest Dave Rose is up next. Dave is an outdoor writer and photography, as well as a fishing guide in northern Michigan. This time we talk about ice fishing in the dead of winter.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up with another great recipe. This time Dave has a hearty rabbit dinner that’s perfect for cold weather.

Yet another busy show, I hope you enjoy it.
