Lots of outdoor news and information to cover on this week’s Outdoor Magazine radio show.
First I talk about my recent bear hunting trip to Quebec. I spent a week with the good folks at Northern Outfitters near Val-D’or. All three of the hunters in my group scored on nice animals, including Ted Harpham of Darton Archery.

Next, Craig Owczarak of Meats and Mooore in Bay City Michigan joins me to talk about processing my bear and the different cuts of meat he’ll get from that animal. Craig says bear brats are hard to beat when grilled.
Then Brian Quaca, AKA the “Pigman”, is next to talk about the threat feral hogs bring to the Michigan landscape. Brian makes his living as a hog hunting guide and TV host. He says the animals are fun to hunt, but the damage they cause to habitat is extensive.
Hour two starts out with a fishing theme as Bryan Darland of Jay’s Sporting Goods
joins me to talk about bass angling in Michigan. Bryan says that game fish is often overlooked in the Great Lakes State and has some tips on how to catch both largemouth and smallies.
Tony Hansen of MUCC closes out the hour. Tony is the second in command at the Michigan United Conservation Clubs and he brings me up to speed on legislation designed to eradicate feral hogs in the state.
Doug Deming of the Fish Point Lodge on Saginaw Bay kicks off the final hour of this week’s show. Doug has been chasing walleye the past few weeks. He has a fishing report, and some tips on where to find those great tasting ‘eyes.
The show wraps up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time Dave has a very tasty bear stew recipe in honor of my successful Quebec bear hunt.
Another busy show, I hope you enjoy it.
