A fast paced show this weekend on Outdoor Magazine radio.
First RJ Meyer of the Trophy Room Taxidermy Studio inside Jay’s Sporting Goods joins me with some advice on field care for longbeards you plan on taking to the taxidermist. We also update listeners on the bear hunt outing this August with Pete Jones of Superior Bear Outfitters in Ontario.
Next, Craig Owczarzak of Meats and Mooore in Bay City talks about options for processing wild turkey. Craig says they have a variety of ways to make them into burger or jerky, even smoke wild turkeys.
The hour wraps up with Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews. WNW is Michigan’s premiere outdoor publication and Tom has a preview of their next issue.
Hour number two kicks off with a fishing report from the Detroit River by Lance Valentine of Walleye 101. Lance says the season is just getting started there and already his clients have taken several fish over ten pounds.
Then, Ted Harpham of Darton Archery joins me to talk about their new crossbows. Darton keeps improving those models with more speed and better trigger systems. These latest improvements can be found on their Lightning and Serpent Ltd models.
Tony Hansen of MUCC is up next. Tony has an update on the progress of de-listing wolves and allowing states to manage those populations. It’s not good news for Michigan.
In our final hour we switch gears and talk about fishing with Gary Schaefer of Trout Scout Charter in Manistee. Gary has his big 36 foot Tiara in the water for the season and he’s already catching brown trout in Lake Michigan. The veteran captain has some advice on what to expect from a charter fishing trip. He also has some info for anglers with their own boats on where to fish in Manistee.
The show wraps up with wild game chef Dixie Dave Minar. This time Dave has one of his most popular fish recipes. It’s called walleye New Orleans.
A very busy show this week. I hope you enjoy it.
