A fast paced show this weekend on Outdoor Magazine.
First, I tell the story of my recent whitetail hunt in Ohio with Bill Pyles of Ohio Bowhunting Outfitters. The weather, and the bucks, didn’t cooperate this time, but I will head back in a few weeks as we get closer to the rut.
Then, an inspirational story from a young man in Kansas…Ty Hockett. Ty was paralyzed in a car accident but he still pursues his cravings for the outdoors. You can learn more about his story and quest to encourage others to stay involved on his facebook page. You can also hear my conversation with Ty posted on the Outdoor Magazine facebook page.
Rob Milano of Enzo Creek joins me next. Rob is the guy behind the Outdoor Magazine Android and Apple Radio app. Now Rob has come up with a new app to help hunters identify the age of deer, that’s a key tool in quality deer management. You can learn more about the Deer Age Tool on their website. By the way, that group has another app in the works and they’re looking for waterfowl pictures to help illustrate the program. You can submit your photos here, and maybe even make a few bucks.
The hour wraps up with Tim Hart of Q1 Buckpole. With the Michigan deer season in full swing now Tim is starting to get some whitetails entered in the contest. We’ll check in with Tim throughout the season and let you know about the big bucks sure to be entered.
Trophy fall walleye are the theme next as Lance Valentine from Walleye 101 kicks off the second hour. Lance has some great advice for targeting double digit fish…especially on Lake Erie.
Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs finishes out the hour. Tony talks about hunter numbers and feral swine in Michigan.
In the final hour I take a look at a topic not often covered on Outdoor Magazine, or anywhere else for that matter…raccoon hunting. Jim Wale of JW Kennels joins me with some great insight into that night time form of hunting. We also discuss dog hunting for rabbits, bear and coyote.
As always Chef Dixie Dave Minar runs the anchor leg of the show. This week Dave has a very nice venison recipe.
Another busy show. I hope you can join me.
