This week on the Outdoor Magazine radio show…..
First, I talked with Doug McElwea of Outdoor Adventures Resorts. Doug told me what his five resorts have to offer, and why guests are flocking there…even in a tough economy.
Then I discussed a couple of items coming up on my calendar. First, the Walleye Mavericks fishing league. This bi-weekly competition is expected to be a lot of fun for Saginaw Bay Anglers. You can learn more about that here.
Next, We talked about the BayFest scheduled for Bay City, MI over Memorial Weekend. As part of that festival, I’m involved in a “celebrity” walleye chowder competition. I’ve teamed up with the Junction Restaurant in Saginaw and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County.
The goal is to raise money to buy fishing equipment for the Clubs.
Their Bay City location is on the bank of the Saginaw River, near some pretty good fishing spots. I think it would be great to have fishing equipment there kids could check out and take to the river.
I encouraged listeners to stop by Vets park in Bay City Sunday afternoon from 2-4, kick in a couple bucks for the chowder and raise money the Club.
We wrapped up the first hour of the show with Randy Jorgenson of Woods-n-Waternews. Randy gave us a preview of the June edition.
Hour two of this week’s show kicks off with noted outdoor writer Richard P. Smith. Richard talked about springtime bear hunting, as well as several other issues in the outdoor news right now.
He was followed by Mark Romanack of Precision Angling and Fishing 411 Television. Mark had some great advice on fishing rivers for walleye.
In the third hour of the show we switched the conversation over to whitetails with John Niewoonder of the Michigan DNR. John is the acting big game specialist for the department. John told us about the whitetail fawning season…and reminded listeners not to pick up newborn fawns.
We wrapped the show up with wild game chef extraordinaire Dixie Dave Minar. Dave brought us up to speed on his line of wild game soups scheduled to hit the market later this summer.
Another busy show this week….I hope you enjoy it.
