An interesting show this week on Outdoor Magazine.

First I talk about various outdoors events and issues in Michigan, including a movement to lift the baiting ban in northeast Michigan’s “TB zone”. For what it’s worth, I think the people in that part of the state are being short changed and I’d like to see the ban lifted there.

Then, Bill Pyles of Ohio Bowhunting Outfitters joins me to talk about the specifics of his operation and bowhunting in Ohio. Again this year, Bill is offering a discounted price for listeners of the Outdoor Magazine show.

The hour wraps up with Tom Cambell of Woods-n-Waternews. This time Tom talks about the evolution of that publication and how they plan to use technology to stay relevant in the future.

Hour number two features a topic we’ve never covered before in 17 years of the Outdoor Magazine radio show. Patrick Bevier joins me to talk about the sport of spearfishing in Michigan. Patrick is looking to generate interest in the activity that is usually thought of as a salt water sport. You can contact him for more information at his website Outdoor Explorers.net.

Then Dan Eichinger of the Michigan DNR talks with me about the new Hunter Heritage Law. This is the legislation that eliminates Michigan’s minimum hunting age. Although I commented incorrectly in the first hour, that law does not go into effect until the fall of 2012.

Our final hour features Jeff Best of Best Outdoor Products. Jeff’s Michigan based company offers implements to put in food plots, but his topic of discussion is hunting whitetails in other states. Jeff says hunting outside Michigan can increase your odds of shooting a nice buck and he has some great suggestions on how to get started.

As always, Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps the show up. This time he has a couple of very quick, and very tasty, crayfish recipes.

Another busy show. I hope you like it.
