We celebrate the unofficial end of summer this week on Outdoor Magazine radio with a wide range of guests and topics.
First, Scott Young of Jay’s Sporting Goods joins me to talk about today’s choices in versatile guns. Scott recommends a shotgun, or one of the multi barrel platforms on the market today like CVA and Thomspon Center.
Then, Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour with a preview of their big Outdoor Weekend coming up next week.
In the next hour David Balowski of St. Joe River Bows is my first guest. David is a traditional bowyer, that means he makes longbows and recurves. David tells me about the appeal of traditional archery and why that aspect of archery continues to grow.
Tony Hansen of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs is the second guest of the hour. This week Tony brings us up to speed on a proposal to ban lead shot and sinkers because of the perceived threat to the environment. Tony explains how the move is actually a thinly veiled attempt to end hunting and fishing.
The final hour kicks off with my old friend Tom Lounsbury. Tom is a veteran outdoor writer and expert hunter from Michigan’s Thumb. This time Tom talks about hunting geese in the early season and also the appeal of September squirrel season.
The show wraps up with Wild Game Chef Dixie Dave Minar. Dave announces he’s returning to the Outdoor Magazine TV show with weekly wild game cooking tips.
Another busy and informative show. I hope you like it.
