We celebrate the unofficial kick off of the fall hunting season this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.
First longtime friend Greg Abbas of A Way Outdoors joins me to talk about talking with whitetails. Greg and his dad Fred, developed the popular Bowgrunter deer call many years ago and it’s still very popular today. Greg has some great advice and examples of the types of calls to use throughout the season.
Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews wraps up the hour with some last minute promotion of their big Outdoor Weekend in Imlay City.
Hour two features a man I’ve come to respect more each time we talk. Jeff Poet of Jay’s Sporting Goods is my guest. Jay’s is celebrating their fortieth anniversary this weekend and Jeff has some great behind the scenes stories on how the store got started. He also talks about his dad Jay, for whom the store is named, and his passion for the outdoors.
Robert Miller of Michigan Deer Trackn Hounds finishes out the hour. Robert offers a unique service to hunters who are having a hard time recovering their wounded animals. For a fee, Robert will bring one of his tracking dogs out the site of your hunt and put the dog on the last known track. No blood trail is needed, the dogs follow the interdigital scent of the animal. This is a great service that could help recover the trophy of a lifetime. You can reach Robert at (810) 240-4891.
We stay with our Michigan company theme is the final hour of this weekend’s show. Pat McKenna of Ameristep joins me to talk about the history of that company and the products they’re marketing today. Pat’s very excited about their new line of ground blinds and treestands.
Chef Dixie Dave Minar helps me wrap the show up. There’s no recipe this week, instead Dave talks about a Friends of the NRA banquet coming up in a couple of weeks. For details and ticket information you can call Dave at (989) 624-9349.
Another busy fall show. I hope you enjoy it.
