The show kicks off with my quick review of the ATA show. While I saw some great new gear and equipment, my biggest impression was that the archery industry is being taken over by a handful of celebrities, unofficially crowned as “royalty” of the sport.
Next, Dave Thomas of Bowhunter Planet.com joins me with a more traditional look back at the big archery show. Dave also talks about his website and their efforts to appeal to the real life bowhunter.
The hour wraps up with Tom Campbell of Woods-n-Waternews. Tom has a preview of what’s coming up in the February edition of that magazine.
The second hour starts out with Michigan DNR biologist Mark Sargent. Mark has some interesting news about an ambitious plan to restore the pheasant population in Michigan.
I finish the hour talking about threats to the hunting lifestyle. They include a plan to ban gun hunting and snowmobiling in parts of Michigan’s Huron/Manistee national forest.
One of my favorite guests, Richard P. Smith kicks off the final hour of this weekend’s show. Richard talks about the harvest numbers for Michigan’s past bear season, a ban on using chocolate to bait bears, and rumors the baiting ban will be lifted.
The show wraps up with Chef Dixie Dave Minar, this time Dave discusses his many wild game dinners on his calendar for the next few weeks.
Some great information, and some controversial comments this week on Outdoor Magazine radio. I hope you enjoy the show.
