We kick off the new year with some interesting guests and topics this week on Outdoor Magazine Radio.

First, Nick Percy of Killer Food Plots joins me to talk about the interest in food plots now that the Michigan dnr has banned baiting in the Lower Peninsula.  Nick has great advice on how to get started and how much the project will cost.

Then Ben Nielsen of Showspan talks about the big Ultimate Fishing Show Detroit, coming up next weekend in Novi.

Our second hour features new Michigan DNR director Dan Eichinger.  Dan talks about the transition from MUCC over to the Department of Natural Resources.  He also discusses some of his priorities and goals of the new job.

DNR wildlife biologist Pete Kailing is up next.  Pete reminds us about the great wintertime small game hunting and trapping opportunities in Michigan.

Emil Rousseau of the Forward Corporation wraps up the hour.  Emil has a preview of our big Outdoor Expo coming up Feb 1st and 2nd in West Branch.  Details at MikeAveryExpo.com.

Big bore air rifles are the topic in the final hour this week as I talk with Brent Hoag of Extreme Big Bore Air Rifles.

That Michigan based company is making guns up to 20mm and using nitrogen and helium to get very impressive performance.

Chef Dixie Dave Minar wraps it all up once again with another very nice wild game recipe.

I hope you like the show.
