We kick off the show talking about a close encounter with a pack of wolves in the Upper Peninsula. George Widmaier of Savage Dog Outdoors tells the story of a couple of hunters who thought they were calling in coyotes, but actually brought in their much bigger cousins. We also discuss the relationship between coyotes and wolves.
Then Ed Bowlanowski of Speedy Blaze talks about keeping a supply of their Speedy Sparks in your hunting and fishing gear for an emergency fire.
Hour 2 kicks off with audiologist and avid hunter Mike Stewart. Mike has made a career of studying shooting and hearing loss. He says many shooters have hearing loss but much of that damage could have been prevented.
Jason Garvon of the Michigan Wildlife Council is up next. Jason is one of the newest members of that group. He tells us why their efforts are important for protecting hunting and fishing in Michigan.
We wrap up the hour with this week’s “Ask Avery” segment. This time, Lt. Jason Wicklund of the DNR answered questions about tracking deer after dark.
We’re talking fall musky fishing in Hour 3 with Don Barnard. Don is a retired DNR fisheries technician and avid musky angler. He says fall is one of the best times to catch a trophy fish. We also discuss the loss of the Sanford and Wixom Lakes musky fisheries.
We wrap it all up with Chef Dave Minar and another great wild game recipe.
I hope you like the show.
